Pure Good Wiki
NOTE: This is only about the animated Netflix movie version of Ambrosius Goldenloin, as the webcomic/graphic novel version of the character wasn't approved as Pure Good, and thus, only the Netflix movie version of Ambrosius and his heroic deeds should be put here.

My mind? I've lost my mind. I've lost everything. The man I love, my best friend. Although now apparently he's got a new best friend. What's that about? What else is he hiding? Who is the real him? Who am I? A direct descendant of Gloreth? I never asked for that. Now everyone expects me to arrest Ballister. And if I don't, I'm a traitor to you. And if I do, I'm a traitor to him. Oh, and on top of that, I chopped off his arm! His arm! Who chops off an arm? Because I was trained to? ARM CHOPPING IS NOT LOVE LANGUA--
~ Ambrosius' inner thoughts when the Director asked what was going on in his mind, only to then say he's fine when it's shown him outside of his head.

Ambrosius Goldenloin is the tritagonist of the 2023 Netflix animated film, Nimona.

He is the descendant of Gloreth and Ballister Boldheart's boyfriend, who was used by The Director against Ballister. However, after finding out how ruthless she truly is, Ambrosius stood up to the Director and tried to arrest her for her crimes.

He is voiced by Eugene Lee Yang.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • He became a knight to protect his kingdom from "monsters" and people who put his kingdom in danger.
  • He comforted Ballister when he was feeling unsure about wheter or not he was going to be a knight.
  • He tried to stand up to Todd for his bullying of Ballister, and only didn't because Ballister stopped him.
  • He cheared for Ballister when he was pronouced a knight by Queen Valerin.
  • While he does cut off Ballister's arm when he thought he killed the queen, this was only to disarm him and stop him from causing more destruction, and he feels deep remorse for it.
  • He decided to lead the search to arrest Ballister and Nimona, but only because he thought they were dangerous and he tried to avoid any fights, and only refused to listen to him because of the Director manipulating Ambrosius into thinking Ballister was evil.
  • He tried to stop Nimona when he saw her beating up the squire.
  • He defended the Director from Ballister and Nimona, unaware that the Director was the one responsible for the queen's death.
  • He tried to arrest the Director for her murder of the queen and only didn't because she lied about her admiting her murder of the queen was just Nimona faking being the Director.
  • Unlike Ballister, Ambrosius calmed down when talking to his waiter and politely asked for nachos.
  • He apologized to Ballister for cutting off his arm and everything he did to him.
  • He attempts to convince Ballister that Nimona is manipulating him, unaware the Director is fooling him.
  • He ordered his troops to evacuate the civilians from the streets when Nimona turned into a kaiju-like creature and started attacking the city.
  • He saved an old woman from being killed by Nimona's kaiju form.
  • He felt sympathy for Nimona when she was getting comforted by Ballister.
  • He refused to follow the Director's orders to fire the cannons at Nimona, and convinced the other knights to do the same.
  • He realized his mistake of seeing Nimona as a monster, and tried to convince the Director to change her ways, although she refused.
  • He tried to stop the Director from using the cannons, knowing that doing so would lead to the deaths of thousands of civilians.
  • He took care of the other knights who were hit by the laser of the Director's staff.
  • He comforted Ballister after Nimona's presumed death.
  • He went to Nimona's memorial to honor her memory.
  • While he's not as admirable as Nimona, he still stands out by having lower resourses than her, due to her being an incredibly powerful shapeshifter.

Trivia[]

  • Only the animated movie version of Ambrosius is Pure Good, as his webcomic/graphic novel is far more arrogant and apathetic, with him showing no remorse for cutting off Ballister's arm until over halfway through the story, which, unlike in the movie was done out of spiteful envy for Ballister winning against him in a duel rather than to stop him from harming anyone. Even following him joining Ballister's side, he's still rude when mentioning Nimona and insisting to Ballister that they had to kill her rather than try to get her to stop by convincing her like Ballister was suggesting.
