“ | If I had to choose between the world and Sonic, I would choose Sonic! | „ |
~ Amy Rose |
“ | Yeah. And... more. I'm not sure what happened, but I know what I saw: a love that transcended time. I believe in that power. When this is over, I want to share that love with the world. Even though... it may take us far apart. | „ |
~ Amy thinking about the Koco |
Amy Rose, (also formerly known as Rosy the Rascal), is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Knuckles the Echidna) of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
She is one of Sonic's closest allies, meeting her on some of his earliest adventures, she has remained at his side ever since. She is best friends with Cream the Rabbit, and is a big sister figure to her, and is also good friends with Big the Cat and Blaze the Cat. She wields the powerful Piko Piko Hammer against foes that stand in her way and at times when she lashes out at others when pushed too far.
In Japanese, she is voiced by Taeko Kawata. In English, she was voiced by Lynn Harris in Sonic the Hedgehog CD, and by Jennifer Douillard between 1999 and 2004. Lisa Ortiz then started voicing her in Shadow the Hedgehog, then as well in the anime series Sonic X, then was replaced by Cindy Robinson in 2010.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- While not as admirable as Sonic or Knuckles, she has far less resources than they do, and the fact she redeems 3 people, the most people redeemed in the series is enough for her to pass the admirable standards of the series.
- She learns that she can't keep relying on Sonic to save her every time and resolves to be more independent and fend for herself when Sonic couldn't be there for her.
- Throughout the series' progression, she begins acting less obsessive over Sonic as well as less bossy and more sensible and mature. This is best shown in Team Sonic Racing, where she notably talks to him in a more casual manner and only flirts with him on occasion. This in turn causes Sonic to be more comfortable around her and even eat lunch with her.
- Despite her heating-up periods, she is reasonable enough to listen to those who talk about Dr. Eggman.
Video Games[]
- When Amy encounters a Flicky bird, she goes out of her way to keep it out of ZERO's reach and often avoids it during the first half of her campaign.
- After being abducted by ZERO, she refused to give the Flicky to E-102 Gamma and doesn't want the latter to harm it. She does, however, sympathize with Gamma, who lacked emotions and offered her hand in friendship in exchange for the freedom of Flicky and herself. She was responsible for helping Gamma become more sentient and becoming a hero of his own.
- When Sonic was about to destroy Gamma, she steps in between and refused to move aside and explains that Gamma has defected to their side and set her free, which Sonic respects. After that, she justifies her defense to Gamma that it is what friends do, protect one another. She returned the favor.
- If you're playing as Tails, she will do the same with him, and Tails respects her wishes and stands down.
- If you're playing as Gamma, she will remind him about helping her, and likewise, Gamma stands down.
- When she learns that Flicky's siblings are imprisoned by Dr. Eggman, she goes out to find them and she eventually does.
- After being chased by ZERO to the point where it attacked Flicky, she had enough and faces it head on and managed to destroy it. Her anger against ZERO for hurting Flicky is justified.
- She, along with Tails, Knuckles and Big, meets Sonic at Station Square, having been flooded by Chaos in his perfect form, and hands him a Chaos Emerald to help him turn into Super Sonic in order to defeat and quell the leviathan creature's rage.
- When Sonic is framed by Shadow the Hedgehog for stealing a green Chaos Emerald, Amy accompanies Tails on Prison Island and frees Sonic from his cell.
- When the Space Colony ARK is on collision course to Earth, due to Gerald Robotnik setting it up in his grief-induced madness to get back at humanity for the loss of his granddaughter, Maria, Amy finds Shadow and convinces him to stop the ARK from crashing. Shadow, who was also dealing with the loss of Maria, his first best friend, initially didn't care; but when Amy explains that there are good people in this world that are still worth saving despite how cruel they can sometimes be, the moment caused Shadow to realize Maria's true wish and rushes out to stop the collision.
- She teams up with Cream the Rabbit and Big the Cat, forming Team Rose, and offers to help them find their friends, Chocola and Froggy respectively and has fought Eggman several times. She and her friends helped in weakening Metal Sonic enough for Sonic and his team to have their showdown.
- When Cream the Rabbit goes missing in Cryptic Castle, Amy teams up with Shadow to find her and make sure she is safe, especially with the Black Arms invasion happening.
- She bravely confronts Black Doom alongside Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge and Eggman, although everyone excluding Shadow are temporarily paralyzed by nerve gas. After it wears off and everyone escapes the Black Comet, Amy, along with the others will give Shadow advice on defeating Devil Doom (Black Doom's final form) during the last battle.
- Despite initially mistaking Silver for Sonic, she found his name to be a nice one afterwards.
- She is quick to offer Silver the Hedgehog help in finding a specific person he is looking for; unaware that Silver is hunting for Sonic, whom Mephiles the Dark labeled as the "Iblis Trigger". When she does find out that Silver wanted to kill Sonic, she protects the latter and explains that even at his worst, Sonic would never endanger the world in any way. This moment would cause Silver to contemplate if killing Sonic was right and confront Mephiles on how Sonic is connected to the world's destruction before Shadow thwarts his second attempt on Sonic and shows him the truth.
- She saved Princess Elise from Eggman's base, and she engages in small talk with her about love.
- After Sonic is skewered by Mephiles to drive Elise into despair; crying would release Iblis from her, which was why she was forbidden by her late father from doing so, and Mephiles fuses with the fiery behemoth to become Solaris and bring about the time space rift that threatens to destroy the existing timelines. With time falling apart, Amy shows that she deeply cares for Sonic and breaks down upon seeing the dead body of the person who was so important to her since because of Sonic, she became a brave, self-reliant young lady who can protect herself, and seeing him dead and the world is coming to an end, she nearly loses all hope with almost everyone until Elise informs everyone that she sensed his spirit, and the Chaos Emeralds are still about. When Silver rekindles everyone's hope and confidence in reviving Sonic, Amy tells Elise to look after him until she and her friends return with the seven Chaos Emeralds from various places needed to bring back Sonic so he can fight Solaris and save the universe.
- She is very polite with Professor Pickle and gives Sonic encouraging words throughout his journey, and even after finding out about Sonic's transformation into a werehog whenever night falls after an incident, she still cares and accepts him and never shows fear at his new form. When Dark Gaia plunges the world in darkness and the professor laments about the world being doomed, Amy assures him that Sonic would never let the world end, and she is proven right.
- She joins the Resistance ranks in the battle against Infinite and Dr. Eggman to restore freedom to the world.
- In Sonic Frontiers after Sonic frees her from Cyber Space, she shows concern when she noticed he absorbed the Cyber Energy in the process.
- She defended Sonic from Sage after the latter accuses him of being dangerous.
- Along with Knuckles and Tails, she saved Sonic after he was corrupted by Cyber Space, which allowed him to fight against The End and save the planet.
- She was a motherly, nurturing, and selfless guardian of the Koco, during her time in the Cyber Space State, protecting them from any harm and even requested to Sonic if he could do certain favors for her, regarding their safety and concern, seeing as she couldn't physically do them herself.
- In Sonic Dream Team, she attempts to stop Cream from joining Tails, worried for their safety since she and Cheese got captured by Eggman in the beginning.
- In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, during her birthday, she thanked everyone who gave her presents, and was determined to figure out who "killed" Sonic. She also forgave Shadow for accusing him of killing him and thanked him for trying to get her tickets to her favorite band of all time. At the end of the game, she forgave Espio for what he did, and helped Sonic and everyone else to stop the Mirage Express from going out of control. However, she didn't apologize for destroying it with her hammer, but it's not a major prevention, as she had good intentions and wanted to save her birthday.
- In Sonic Superstars, when she meets up with a deserted, crying Trip in Lagoon City, Amy cheers her up and offers her to come with her, despite the fact that she was assisting Dr. Eggman and Fang. After completing her act, Amy offers Trip an apple she found at the beginning of the act out of kindness. This likely gave Trip the courage to turn against Eggman and Fang. She likely even forgives her for everything she did despite being forced to do.

- Her Sonic X and Sonic Boom counterparts cannot qualify as Pure Good due to being too wrathful and obsessed with Sonic and are Inconsistently Admirable as a result.
- One of her English voice actors, Cindy Robinson, also voices the female voice for The End, who is ironically Pure Evil.
