Android 16 is a supporting character in the manga/anime series, Dragon Ball Z, being a major character in the Androids Saga.
After the destruction of the Red Ribbon Army, Android 16 was created by Dr. Gero to destroy Goku. However, when he was awakened, Android 16 chose not to follow his programming and instead assisted the Z Fighters in stopping Cell.
He is voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa in Japanese and Jeremy Inman (Funimation) and Scott McNeil (Ocean Group) in English.

Dragon Ball Z[]
In General[]
- While he did attempt to have Goku killed, it was only because Dr. Gero programmed him to do it, making these his actions and not 16's. Also he did not rush 17 & 18 to find Goku.
- Similar to Gohan, a fellow pacifist fighter, 16 holds a kind, gentle demeanor, coming to love animals and nature and gaining the desire to protect them, opposing anyone who would threaten to put an end to that life.
- Though he is a machine, he was able to overcome his programming, demonstrating that he does possess moral agency and chooses to fight to protect the life on the planet.
- Even though Gohan is Goku's son, he chooses to not act hostile towards him.
Cell Saga[]
- Unlike Androids 17 and 18, Android 16 did not partake in any of the fights against the Z-Fighters or the destruction that they did, instead choosing to admire the scenery and merely travel with them.
- He immediately takes Piccolo's warnings about Cell seriously.
- Even before fighting Cell, he realizes that Cell is a universal threat if the latter achives his Perfect Form.
- He tells 18 that he's glad he met both her and 17, showing his gratitude and love for both of them and the time they spent together.
- Saves 17 from having his from being absorbed by Cell.
- Tells Androids 18 and especially 17 to run away, choosing to stay behind and fight Cell himself in order to protect them and Earth.
- He protects Android 18 and runs away with her to try and save her from being absorbed by Cell.
- Even when heavily injured and on the verge of shutting down, he still attempts to hold Cell off and protect 18.
- Thanks Krillin for taking him to Bulma to repair him.
- He affectionately holds Scratch, Dr. Brief's cat, smiling as the cat licks him.
- He takes part in Cell's tournament and makes an alliance with the Z-Fighters in order to stop Cell.
- When he arrives at the Cell Games, he once again thanks Krillin for helping repair him.
- He overcomes his programming to kill Goku, working alongside him to stop Cell, and while he is rather cold towards him, this is also due to his programming.
- He saves Mr. Satan, the camera crew and other fighters from Cell's attack.
- He attempts to sacrifice himself by detonating the bomb implanted inside of him by Dr. Gero to kill Cell. Sadly, because the bomb was removed by Bulma because it was powerful enough to destroy Earth, he was nearly blown to smithereens by Cell.
- Despite trying to detonate himself, he was completely unaware that the bomb was powerful enough to destroy Earth. Had he knew this, he wouldn't have tried to detonate himself.
- In his final moments, he speaks to Gohan by convincing him it's okay to use his anger and fight to protect the planet and the life he came to love, allowing him to unleash the power which would defeat Cell. His actions indrectly saves not only the solar system, but also the universe.
Post Cell Saga[]
- He inspires his friend, Android 17, with his peaceful nature and love for animals and causes him to be a park ranger to protect the wildlife as a way to honor Android 16's legacy.
