~ Bolt telling Mittens she doesn't know how powerful Styrofoam is. |
Bolt is the titular main protagonist of the 2008 film Bolt. He believes that he is a super dog that possesses powers, but after losing his owner Penny and knowing what real life is like, Bolt comes to accept that he has no powers and decides to try and help everyone he can regardless throughout the film. He was voiced by John Travolta.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- Despite the TV show Bolt being fake, he was oblivious to this, and his heroic intent was genuine despite there being no actual threat to the people and world around him, making this trait admirable.
- When he was under the delusion he was a super dog, he was extremely determined to protect Penny at all costs and merely viewed his superpowers as an effective means to do that as well as fight crime, showing little to no arrogance over them.
- When he believed that Penny was kidnapped, his first instinct was to try and save her, and after he accidently gets shipped to New York, he was willing to travel all the way back to Hollywood to get back to her, demonstrating his loyalty.
- He allows Rhino to come with him on his adventure after seeing how much Rhino idolized him and wished to help him with his mission.
- While still believing she was a minion of the Green-Eyed Man and viewing cats in general as untrustworthy and evil, he tried to save Mittens when she was hanging off the end of a train.
- He busts Mittens out of the pound with Rhino after Rhino saved him from the truck that he and Mittens were imprisoned in. This is despite the fact that it had just sunk in that he was really just a normal dog, and he was extremely unsure of himself as a result, but after a small pep talk from Rhino, he decided to do the best he could.
- Despite finding out everything about his previous life was fake and part of a TV show for entertainment, he still remained loyal to Penny, kept the faith that she was real and stay determined to get back to her. Therefore, when Mittens made a new home for him, Bolt politely refused to settle down even after she tried to convince him she was just an actor and never really loved him as a result of her own negative experience with her former owners.
- After he noticed the studio that Penny was inside of was on fire, despite just seeing her interacting with an identical dog that looked like him, misunderstanding their interaction and growing depressed, thinking she no longer cared about him, he still bravely ran inside so he could save her life.
- Despite Penny insisting that he leave her behind, he refused to do so and ends up using the last of his strength to bark several times through the air vent to alert the firefighters to their location inside the building before he passes out from smoke inhalation, which leads to both of them being found and saved.
- Despite being xenophobic towards cats at first, this was only because his TV show portrayed them as villainous all the time (the cat actors who knew the show was fictional also enjoyed toying with his delusions); once he realizes his true nature and befriends Mittens, he sees cats are not inherently evil and subverted this trait, and now respects equally as a whole.
