“ | I will work harder! | „ |
~ Boxer's motto. |
Boxer is a main character in the George Orwell story Animal Farm. He is a powerful work horse who, along with the other animals, takes part in a rebellion against their sadistic master Mr. Jones, but then becomes blindly loyal to the selfish pig Napoleon.
He is voiced by Maurice Denham (who also voiced all the other animals) in the 1954 animated film and by Paul Scofield in the 1999 film.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- He's a hard worker and the other animals see him as the heart of the farm, and even the pessimistic donkey Benjamin loves him.
- He helps the animals overthrow Mr. Jones.
- He defends the farm in the Battle of the Cowshed and shows remorse when he thinks he accidentally killed a stable boy.
- He works hard to build the windmill, hoping it will make life easier for the other animals.
- He responds to every setback by working harder, and tries to see some good in Napoleon even though it's misguided, insisting there must be a good reason for his actions.
- He defends Snowball from Squealer's propaganda by pointing out that he fought bravely.
- He defends himself from Napoleon's dogs and knocks one of them down, but doesn't kill it and spares its life when Napoleon tells him to.
- He defends the farm from Frederick's men, killing three of them in self-defense and driving the rest of them away.
- He insists on working harder even when it puts his health at risk, and even after collapsing, his only concern is that the windmill will be able to be finished without him.
Trivia[]
