Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Carter, better known as Captain Carter, is one of the main characters in the MCU animated series What If...?.

She is an alternate version of S.H.I.E.L.D founder and Steve Rogers' love interest Agent Peggy Carter that received the super soldier serum and became a supehero instead of Steve, and became a part of the Guardians of the Multiverse to stop Infinity Ultron. Afterwards, she continued to save people from different realities from other threats.

What Makes Her Pure Good?[]

Season 1[]

  • She killed Heinz Kruger to stop him from stealing the super soldier serum and completely sabotaging the super-soldier project.
  • After Steve was injured, Carter volunteered herself to receive the serum to prevent the Allies from losing the project.
  • She recovered the Tesseract from Arnim Zola to stop the Nazis from receiving it in Berlin.
  • She rescued Bucky and the Howling Commandos from a HYDRA prison.
  • She saved Bucky from falling off a train, ensuring he still retained his left arm and wouldn't become the Winter Soldier in her timeline.
  • Despite all that the Red Skull had done, she was disturbed by the way the monster Skull summoned brutally crushed him to death.
  • She saved the world from being destroyed by "HYDRA's Champion" monster, sacrificing her chance to live with Steve in her time by pushing the monster back through the portal and killing it, while arriving in the 21st century.
  • She agreed on behalf of her fellow heroes from different realities to Uatu's request that they become Guardians of the Multiverse and stop Infinity Ultron.
  • She and Black Widow from Infinity Ultron's timeline saved the multiverse from being destroyed by Infinity Ultron with Carter holding Infinity Ultron up to ensure that Black Widow's arrow laced with Arnim Zola's virus would go straight through Ultron's eye, allowing Zola to kill him for good.
  • She rejected Prince Killmonger's attempt to corrupt her into joining him in rewriting reality with the Infinity Stones with the promise of being reunited with Steve.
  • Despite longing for Steve, she agreed with Uatu that she was needed in the present and chose to return there.

Season 2[]

  • She became the leader of the Avengers in her timeline and saved the world from the Chitauri invasion, personally stopping Loki with Black Widow.
  • She stopped a brainwashed Steve from assassinating Secretary of State Bucky Barnes.
  • She freed Steve from his brainwashing, thereby allowing him to destroy the Red Room once and for all.
  • Despite essentially being kidnapped to an alternate universe and Uatu's repeated attempts to dissuade her from saving it, Carter saved the universe of 1602 from being destroyed, at the cost of being stranded there.
  • She agreed to help Strange Supreme capture one of his supposedly escaped universe killers, but after Kahhori revealed she was a hero and Strange had slid back into villainy, she saved Kahhori from Strange.
  • She took the Infinity Armor and all the stones back from Prince Killmonger, but unlike him or other villains, she was never tempted to use them to rewrite reality for her own personal gain, instead only using the stones to level the playing field against Strange Supreme.
    • Additionally, she rejected Strange Supreme's attempts to corrupt her with yet another promise of being reunited with Steve.
  • She and Kahhori saved most of Strange Supreme's captives, whether heroic or villainous, stopping Supreme from sacrificing them to his Forge.
  • She freed Strange from the demons possessing him. While it was temporary, it finally allowed Strange to see how far he'd gone and he was able to reassert himself when the demons came back, sacrificing himself to his own Forge in order to restore his universe. As the Watcher himself points out afterwards, it was Carter seeing the good in him that allowed him to conquer his demons and restore his reality.

Season 3[]

  • Saves the people of Earth-625 from a Cosmic Monster.
  • She became the leader of the Guardians of the Multiverse, inspiring various other people such as Storm and Byrdie to protect the Multiverse from various threats with her.
    • From using Kang's technology on the Guardian's Ship, it is possible or implied that her team could've stopped Kang the Conqueror along with his variants conquering the multiverse, additionally saving countless/billions of lives.
  • Makes the decision to save Uatu and the Watchers with three shards, even though venturing into the fifth dimension was thought to be impossible.
  • On the last shard/final attempt, she follows Kahhori's suggestion of finding an Infinity Ultron Variant, however she does it alone so that way her friends would not get hurt.
  • Convinces the Infinity Ultron Variant to fight for life and the Multiverse and gives him a second chance, despite him destroying his entire universe before falling into stasis. Later, he makes the sacrifice to buy her team some time, citing her as the reason why he found some good in himself.
  • She rejected the Eminence's attempts to hurt her friends, protecting them among every step of the way in the final battle.
  • Makes the selfless decision to sacrifice herself when the Watchers were about to erase her friends along with their variants in every universe.
