Captain McCrea (also known as Captain B. McCrea or simply The Captain) is the tritagonist of Pixar's 9th full-length animated film WALL•E.
He is voiced by Jeff Garlin.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- He was convinced that there was indeed hope for the Earth, as well as saw what a meaningless existence it would be to keep living the way they were. He decided it was their moral obligation/responsibility to be there for their original home and do what they could to restore it to the way it was and capable of being.
- He and EVE were horrified when AUTO shocked WALL-E.
- He gave WALL-E and EVE important instructions on how to get the plant to the holo-detector, which would activate the warp drive that would allow them to get back to Earth. In the meantime, he distracted AUTO by fooling him into believing he had the plant and then wrestled for control over the ship.
- He, EVE, all the people and robots were horrified when AUTO nearly crushed WALL-E to death.
- He stood up to AUTO by turning him back to manual so he could end his tyranny forever.
- He brought everyone back home to Earth where over time, they managed to restore life to it by, among other things, planting seeds, watering them and gradually restoring its vegetation, as well as rebuilding civilization.
- After arriving on Earth, he watched EVE speed off to fix WALL-E, and solemnly put his hat against his chest, hoping that the robot would be alright.
Trivia[]
- Despite being a protagonist and completely good in the final version, in one of the trailers for the film, he was incorrectly portrayed as a villain, even uttering a line that wasn't even in the movie: "Arrest that robot!". This was likely from an early version or a deleted scene of the film, possibly implying that he was in some form, intended to be an antagonist (though details about it are currently unknown). Had this been kept in the final version, he very likely wouldn't be PG.
- It's also currently unknown how possibly villainous he was in that early version, as well as whether he was actually evil or would redeem himself at some point.
