My daughter, if you can hear me, I knew you would return as well. It's in your nature to protect the innocent. I'm sorry that on that day, the day you were shut out and left to die, no one was there to lift you up into their arms the way you lifted others into yours. And then, what became of you. I should have known you wouldn't be content to disappear, not my daughter.
~ Henry Emily to his daughter, the Puppet.

Charlotte "Charlie" Emily, later known as the Puppet and Lefty, is a major heroic antagonist in the ScottGames era of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.

She is the daughter of Henry Emily, co-founder and co-owner of Fazbear Entertainment, who was killed by William Afton and now haunts the animatronic that was, ironically enough, made to protect her.

Although she serves as an antagonist like the other animatronics, the Puppet has genuinely good intentions and wants to free the other dead children, but is not above trying to get revenge on her killer.

In Ultimate Custom Night, she was voiced by Reagan Rundus as the Puppet and by Lena Gwendolyn Hill as Lefty.

What Makes Her Pure Good?[]

  • Henry states that, even before her death, she was always a caring person who protected the innocent and lifted others into her arms.
  • While it is true that Charlie seeks revenge on Afton, it's on a much smaller level than that of the other animatronics. By 2023, it seems like she is more focused on freeing his victims than killing him. (By UCN she has completely moved past hating Afton.)
  • She played a major role in the Missing Children, the first five victims of Afton, coming back from the dead, granting them a second life and a chance for revenge on their killer.
  • If it really is the real Puppet and not a hallucination in Five Nights at Freddy's 3, then she travelled all the way to Fazbear's Fright just to free the spirits and stop Afton.
  • In the Happiest Day minigame, she manages to free the Missing Children from their animatronic prisons and allow them to move on to the afterlife.
  • It was implied she went to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place to stop Afton from murdering more children.
  • Though she doesn't show plenty of personality during her physical appearances in the series, she doesn't lack characterization as her actions and description by her father Henry show that she's a kind and protective spirit who'll stop at nothing to help the Missing Children.
  • While she usually serves an an antagonist in most of her appearances, none of them affect her morality for numerous reasons, namely:
    • There's no evidence to suggest that she amassed a kill count back when the pizzerias were open since she only targeted Jeremy Fitzgerald, Fritz Smith and the dayshift guard during 1987, with Phone Guy's dialogue implying that this was the first time any attacks were happening, and she was mostly absent from the reopened pizzeria, where the majority of the deaths occurred.
    • She makes no attempts to kill the night guard at Fazbear's Fright, meaning that she has clearly moved past her more violent days by then.
    • She can't be truly blamed for her actions inside the Lefty animatronic as it was heavily implied she's not in control of the body and only imprisoned inside it.
    • While she reappears as a threat in both Ultimate Custom Night and Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted, even showing some corrupting qualities in the former, neither of these depictions can be trusted since the former is an illusory personal hell for Afton made by the Vengeful Spirit, while the latter is nothing more than an in-universe game made to cover up the truth about ghosts haunting the animatronics.

Trivia[]

  • Charlie is the moral opposite of her nemesis William Afton whom is Pure Evil.
  • Only Charlotte Emily's video game counterpart qualifies as Pure Good as her Novel Trilogy counterpart is Near Pure Good while her Fazbear Frights counterpart doesn't qualify due to only killing William Afton and not much else.
    • That said, there is speculation that Fazbear Frights is set in the same continuity as the games which, if confirmed, would instantly make that counterpart qualify for being one and the same with this very incarnation, not to mention it would also make her more admirable.
  • Charlotte used to be Inconsistently Admirable after she was assumed to be lethal, but then it was decided that she was Pure Good after it became clear that she didn't know she was actually harming innocent people.
