Chiaki Nanami is the deuteragonists of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. She has the title of Ultimate Gamer.
She is actually revealed to be an artificial intelligence recreation of the original Chiaki Nanami, who was killed before the events of the series, created to watch over the other students,
She is voiced by Kana Hanazawa in Japanese and by Christine Marie Cabanos in English. In the stage play adaptations, she was portrayed by Nana Yamada in 2015 and Momoka Itō in 2017.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- Despite being an artificial intelligence created to protect the other students, she reveals her identity to save them, which goes against her programming, showing she has moral agency.
- She helps Hajime in investigating the murders and pointing clues out.
- To avoid catching Despair Disease, Chiaki along with Sonia Nevermind, Gundham Tanaka, Kazuichi Soda and Hiyoko Saionji moved to the motel on the third island.
- She stopped Hajime from entering the Final Dead Room.
- After Akane Owari threatened to attack Nagito Komaeda, she attempted to stop her and calm her down.
- She told Hajime that she was the traitor, sacrificing her life to save everyone.
- She returned to comfort Hajime and encourage him to initiate the Force Shutdown, saving the students when Alter Ego Junko was succeeding in crushing their spirits.
- As the Neo World Program shut down, she thanked Hajime and told him they will be friends forever.
- After her deactivation, she briefly returned to Hajime to tell him to make his future together with the students, before fading away.
Trivia[]
- Her original human incarnation was formerly approved as Pure Good alongside her AI incarnation, but she was later separated from her page as a Heroic Benchmark, due to her being a different entity and massively failing the high admirable standard.
- With the announcement of Danganronpa 2x2, it’s unclear whether her 2x2 counterpart will be Pure Good.
