Claire Temple, also known as the Night Nurse is a recurring character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Specifically, she is a major protagonist in Daredevil and Luke Cage, a one-time character in Jessica Jones and a supporting character in Iron Fist and The Defenders. She is a Metro-General Hospital nurse and who becomes heavily involved with the lives of the Defenders, acting as voice of reason or support for each member.
She is portrayed by Rosario Dawson who also voices Batgirl from The Lego Batman Movie.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- She is a registered Nurse so even when the Defenders are not around, she helps plenty of other people very often over several years.
- She always is treating and stitching the Defender heroes after their heroics/vigilantism such as Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and even Misty Knight.
- She acts as the heart, emotional support and voice of reason to the various Defenders. She always does her best to talk sense into them, tells them when they objectively go too far at the cost of their own humanity, stops them when are too brutal on their enemies, and reminds them not to overdo themselves physically or emotionally since even enhanced people have their limits.
- Despite the phenomenal admirable standard of the MCU, she stands out for continuously being a driving force behind the Defenders, with far less resources than other heroes. Thanks to her always saving the lives of the Defenders, they were able to save thousands of lives making her indirectly responsible for all the innocent life preserved.
Background[]
- Her Dad and Mom fought all the time growing up so she vowed to never live in that anger again. While she had a bad relationship with her Dad when he died, she wished for anything in order to have a good relationship with him again.
Daredevil[]
- When her neighbor alerted that there was a beaten up man in the dumpster she immediately investigated. When she recognizes him as the masked man that has been helping people she doesn’t call an ambulance with him being a vigilante and treats him in her apartment despite being a stranger.
- She agrees to keep his secret identity due the fact he was helping people.
- She helped Daredevil interrogate a Russian thug for information on a kidnapped boy by stabbing him under his eye which was the most painful spot but also because it was still way less harmful then getting repeatedly punched in the face. And was mortified when Daredevil threw him off the roof worried he killed him. *
- When she was kidnapped and tortured for Daredevil’s name she refused to comply. While she still didn’t know his name at that point anyway, the fact that she didn’t even say his fake name shows she wouldn’t have said it anyway.
- She didn’t blame Matt for what happened to her at all saying it was her choice to take him out of the dumpster and that she believed he was making the city a better place.
- She immediately came out of hiding and went to help people at the hospital after the explosions in Hell’s Kitchen.
- When Matt called her to help save Ranskahov who had important information on Fisk she walked Matt through how to save him despite him being the one to kidnap and torture her.
- Didn’t believe the false news reports that Daredevil was a cop killer.
- Agreed to help and treat victims that were tortured by the Hand by keeping them safe and hiding in a part of the hospital under renovation.
- When the Hand ninjas attacks the hospital to get back the victims she immediately alerted hospital police and defended herself and killed one in self defense by knocking one out the window
- Felt great sorrow that Nurse Delgado got killed and when the hospital covered up her death she immediately quit.
Jessica Jones[]
- Helped Jessica Jones sneak Luke Cage out of the hospital after they found out he was enhanced and the police were looking for him despite her getting the graveyard shift as punishment.
- Went to Jessica Jones' apartment to help treat Luke Cage and stayed with him as Jessica tried to stop Kilgrave.
Luke Cage[]
- When Luke Cage and her found a shot and bleeding Detective Scarfe who demanded no emergency services cause he be killed she treated and protected him risking her own life despite the fact he was a corrupt cop because he had important information to stop the crime Lord Cottonmouth who shot him.
- Convinces Luke not to choke Scarfe to death for killing Chino by saying he wasn’t a killer.
- When Luke Cage tried to leave Harlem she convinced him to stay to stop Cottonmouth.
- When Luke was shot by a Judas bullet by Diamondback she immediately called her ambulance driver friend to attempt to discreetly take them to an empty emergency room so she could try to treat him.
- When Misty Knight called Cage to stay he was a suspect in Cottonmouth murder she defended him saying he was with her all night giving him an alibi.
- Told Cage to duck after seeing a sniper dot on his head and when Diamondback grabbed her through the window she stabbed him multiple times in the arm.
- Didn’t press charges against Knight after she choked her in interrogation and told them Cage was innocent.
- Traveled with Luke to Georgia so Dr Burstein could help him with the bullet despite Luke being a fugitive. Then helped Dr Burstein do the procedure on Luke Cage by figuring it out how to get through his in breakable skin by using acid despite her worry. She resuscitated him and was able to remove the shrapnel from his skin.
- She rightfully rejected Dr. Burstein when he asked her for her employment saying he was lucky not to have Luke’s powers and if he did the same illegal experiments on her it would be more than the barn that was destroyed.
- When Diamondback held the club hostage she told Candace to fake a faint so she could knock out a guard and go help Cage.
- When Shades found them she teamed up with Knight to defeat him.
- Kept Candace under protection at her Mothers house. Then was worried if her Mom was okay when finding out Candace was killed and was saddened by her death.
- When Luke Cage fought his half brother Diamondback she told him to remember who he is inspiring Cage to defeat him.
- When Luke was arrested by Marshals she told him she would contact her lawyer friend to prove his innocence and promised to wait for him so they could have “coffee”. While she didn’t know Matt was indisposed he got Foggy to defend him and Luke was released months later.
- Supported and helped with Luke Cage heroics in Harlem. As well as treating him when he got hurt
- Became a Physical Therapist for Misty Knight to help her gain control of her new cybernetic arm.
- Was rightfully worried about Cage’s anger issues.
- Tried to get Cage to talk to his Father again to fix their strained relationship knowing he would retreat like she did with hers.
- When to meet Cage’s father James Lucas to see if he was really a monster like his son said he was but found out he was a good man after a friendly conversation.
- After Luke Cage punched a hole in her wall repeatedly out of anger she said that she wasn’t going to live in that anger again like with her father so she broke it off and moved out.
- Was caring for Luke Cage problems with anger and his vigilantism so she asked Danny Rand “Iron Fist” to help with both. Thanks to her Iron Fist successfully helped Luke Cage control his anger and stop the growth of Bushmaster’s Nightshades.
- After Luke Cage inherited Harlem’s Paradise she tried to meet him again to reconcile but was sent home.
Iron Fist[]
- She decided to take a dojo class in order to learn how to defend herself becoming one of Colleen Wing’s best students and quickest learner.
- Came to treat Radovan Bernivig when Wing contacted her and said that he needed a hospital. She and Wing took Bernevig to the hospital and when she realized he was immediately kidnapped she tried to rescue him in vain.
- Agrees to go to China to help Danny fight Hand saying that she is doing it for the late Nurse Delgado.
- When Danny Rand got a panic attack after the plane went through turbulence that reminded him of the plane crash that killed his parents she comforted him and talked him through it.
- Stayed as a lookout when Colleen and Danny sneaked into the Hand base and when she saw Madame Gao coming she warned them.
- Helped Wing defeat a Hand henchman by throwing her a sword.
- When Gao allowed her and Wing to leave if they abandoned Rand they refused and defeated her henchmen.
- Guarded Madame Gao and helped Danny Rand get information on the deaths of his parents by getting truth serum.
- Was shocked when she found out Colleen Wing was a part of the Hand and at first refused to believe it at first. She was still willing to talk to Wing and forgive her anyway despite rightfully calling her out. When Colleen Wing tried to explain she was the good part of the Hand Temple rightfully pointed out that they should have changed the name then to the Foot or something if that were true.
- When Colleen and Danny got framed by Harold for heroin possession she got the lawyer Jeri Hogarth to help them despite them being fugitives.
- Helped Danny deafest Harold by buying a peanut cart with Rand’s money and lighting it on fire in order to set a distraction.
The Defenders[]
- Had “coffee” with Luke Cage once he returned from prison keeping her promise to wait for him.
- After the earthquake in Manhattan she helped provide citizens of Harlem with medical assistance.
- When she found out Luke Cage had a fight with Iron Fist she immediately set up a more friendly introduction so they could know that they’d were on the same side.
- Provided aid to Colleen Wing after she was slashed by Bakuto in the abdomen and comforted her telling her she was the foundation to their friends and an essential ally.
- Treated Matt Murdock after he came back to the police station with injuries.
- She initially disagreed with blowing up Midland Circle, which was really the Hand but came around when she realized that it was the only way to stop the Hand and save Manhattan from collapsing.
- Went with Wing to the building's structure point to set up the bomb to blow up the building and stop the Hand from destroying Manhattan saving approximately 4 million people.
- Fought Hand men with wrenches to help Colleen Wing even attempting to go against Bakuto, an immortal Hand leader.
- Helped carry out Knight after her arm was cut off along with Wing before the building was destroyed.
- Mourned Murdock along with the Defenders when she falsely believed him to be dead in the building collapse.
