“ | Bravo. You are every bit the hero I hoped you would be. My people thought the same of me. They looked to me for hope and inspiration. I... wasn't enough. You freed my dearest friends from their Titan shells, and for that you have my deepest thanks. I, however, was lost. What you see now is the memory of me before we flew into battle. I always wondered how things ended. Now I know. Take my blessing, and with it, my thanks and my hopes. You are this world's hero now. | „ |
~ Crane giving his blessings to Sonic to continue his legacy. |
Crane is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Master King) of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, serving as the overarching protagonist of Sonic Frontiers, as well as its DLC The Final Horizon.
He is the former pilot of the Supreme mech. He was an ancient who, in his ambitions to protect his race and the world, volunteers in trying to abolish, or at the very least, contain The End.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- He was said to be a role model to the Ancients, with many looking up to him as a hero, but even despite the high praise, he ultimately never let it go his head to the point of becoming a jerk, instead remaining as humble as ever.
- He was shown to have been one of the Ancients who helped create the Titans in order to take down The End.
- He was shown to be very caring towards his fellow Ancients, with him not only being willing to give up his life to save them, but his apparition in Final Horizon also thanked Sonic for being able to set his dearest friends free.
- Decided to sacrifice himself by sealing away The End within Supreme in order to save his race from its wrath, with him doing this despite their objections. Ultimately, this action would not only allow his people to continue living for a few more decades, but this act would also pay a large role in the present, as had he not sacrificed himself for the greater good, The End would've wiped out Sonic's World long before he or any of his friends were even born and thus could stop them, giving him one of the biggest posthumous impacts of any character in the series.
- After putting him through a non-lethal trial in order to prove that he was strong enough, he would ultimately give Sonic his blessings to save the world, stating that while he failed in protecting the world, he knew that Sonic could continue his legacy and protect what he cherished for the decades to come.
- While the base game of Sonic Frontiers didn't give him enough characterization to qualify, the Final Horizon DLC fully characterizes him as a selfless, caring and determined individual who only wished for Sonic to be able to leave where he left off and to protect the world from dangerous entities that may wind up putting the entire world at risk.
- While it is true that the version of Crane seen is not technically the real one, it is still a memory left behind from before he went out to fight The End, meaning it is an accurate depiction of what he was like when he was alive.
Trivia[]
- Of all the Sonic Pure Goods, Crane has by far the shortest screentime.
- Crane could be considered a parallel to Sonic himself in a lot of ways. With the both of them being hope bringers who many looked up to for protection and guidance. This is something that is pointed out by the narrative as well, as Master King notes that Sonic reminds him of Crane in a lot of ways. And when Sonic must complete Crane's trial, he notes that he, like himself is a hope bringer who many looked up to.
- Ironically enough, The End, the other character who winds up piloting the Supreme Mech, is the complete opposite to Crane himself, being Pure Evil.
