STOP! This garden is everyone's!
~ Darkrai to Dialga and Palkia.

Darkrai (ダークライ) is the titular overarching protagonist of Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai, the tenth movie of the Pokémon: The Series. It was mainly accused for causing destruction around Alamos Town (mainly by Baron Alberto). In reality, it was actually warning others about Palkia (and later Dialga) are the threats and it was trying to protect town from these two Pokémon deities.

It was voiced by Kōji Ishizaka in Japanese, and by Scott Williams in English.

What Makes It Pure Good?[]

General[]

  • While it did attacked several of Trainer's Pokémon, including Baron Alberto, it was mainly done out of self-defense, plus they were disrupting its focus in finding Palkia.
  • While it appeared to be aloof and emotionless towards most other humans, it is likely due to Darkrai's lack of communication skills as it mostly stays in the garden.

Past[]

  • While it did attacked several Pokémon in Godey's garden, such as Luxray and Roserade, though it was unclear whether it was done out of self-defense or Darkrai was the one provoking. Regardless, Alicia (Alice's grandmother) is able to open Darkrai's heart, thus it was able to redeem itself and live in the garden with other Pokémon in peace.
  • It saved the young Alice from falling off the cliff, though she would originally mistook Tonio, her childhood friend, as her savior.

Events in the Movie[]

  • When Palkia arrived in Alamos Town, causing strange distortion around town, Darkrai vaguely tells the space deity to leave.
  • It used Dark Void to put several Pokémon, including Ash Ketchum, to sleep in order to warn them about Palkia and the threat that space deity posed to the Alamos Town.
    • While it did gave them nightmares, none of them were left with phycological and mental trauma after they had woken up.
  • It found Palkia above the Space-Time Towers and engaged in battle with the space deity, with Dialga, the time deity, joining in the three-way battle.
  • As Alice, Tonio, Ash, and Dawn climbed up the tower in order to play the Oración song to calm Dialga and Palkia down, Darkrai fought the deities off while protecting Ash and his friends from their attacks.
  • In the last ditch effort, it sacrificed itself by getting into the middle of Dialga and Palkia colliding and surrounds them in a shadowy orb to take the hits. This gave Ash and Dawn enough time to play the Oración song the raging deities down and stop them from turning Alamos Town into nothingness.
  • After being revived by Palkia, it watches over Alamos Town, protecting its home from any more threats.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only version of Darkrai to be Pure Good. Ironically, the same character also has a Pure Evil counterpart in the Mystery Dungeon: Explorers games.
