To adventure!
~ Donald during "The Last Adventure!".

Donald Duck is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Bentina Beakley) of Disney's DuckTales 2017 reboot series, serving as a major protagonist of all three seasons. He is also the uncle of Huey, Dewey, and Louie and the twin brother of Della Duck.

He was voiced by Tony Anselmo in his normal voice, Don Cheadle when he was given the voicebox, the late Russi Taylor and Cristina Vee in his child voice, and Dominic Lewis in his singing voice.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • While he had a spiteful relationship with Scrooge for a good while, not only was this justified in the fact that he had unintentionally caused his sister to be lost in space, but he would ultimately make up for this in the Season Finale, where he decides to stay with him due to their family being apart for far too long.
  • While he did have a general disdain towards Gladstone and Fethry, he still clearly cares about them, and appears to have moved past this as he not only works with them in "Moonvasion!" but he's also seen casually hanging out with them in "The Last Adventure!".
  • While he sometimes gets into physical altercations with Della, he clearly never intends to truly hurt her or anyone else, this is without mentioning that most of these are one-off moments played for comedy and don't mean to define his character.
  • While he started off with many corrupting qualities, mainly jerkishness, arrogance as well as being a berserker, by the end of the show he manages to subvert all of these.

Background[]

  • He and Della helps Scrooge on his adventure to get the Papyrus of Binding.
  • He reluctantly agreed to apologize Della for ditching her before he and Bluey (who happens to be his middle nephew Dewey) helps her defeat Wendigo.
  • He and Della went to help Scrooge throughout their adventures for years.
  • Prior to the events of the series, he took Della's kids, Huey, Dewey and Louie in and took care of them for upwards of ten years despite his lack of money and his anger issues.
    • He even goes as far as to seek anger management for the sake of being a better parent to them.
  • While he did keep what happened to Della from his nephews, it's clear that he had the best intentions in mind, as he likely wouldn't have wanted to burden them with the trauma of their mother being "dead".

Season 1[]

  • Played an indirect role in Toad Liu Hai's operation thanks to his terrible luck causing his entire casino as well as himself to die, freeing himself and Gladstone Gander.
  • When the nephews and Webby were down, he tried his best to cheer them up by making them snacks and even announcing that they were all going to the camp that the nephews had wanted to go to at the start of the series.
  • He came up with the plan to stop Magica De Spell, and even deceived the nephews and Webby into helping out on the mission by saying they had to stay on the House Boat.
  • Protected the kids from the Shadow Monsters that Magica had created by directly battling them.

Season 2[]

  • After admitting to lying to Jose and Panchito about his immense wealth, he would go onto save his family from the Drosera occidendum.
  • After being accidentally trapped in space and hearing about General Lunaris' plans to go after the nephews, he proceeded to wrathfully fight him in order to protect them.
  • He used a space pod in order to jetizen back to Earth, and despite the fact that he should've died, he held on for dear life for the sake of the nephews.
  • After being saved from the deserted island he was on, he would go onto help the duck family take down General Lunaris.
  • He and Della manned the rocket controls and proceeded to destroy several of Lunaris' thrusters, crippling him further and further from crashing his spacecraft into Earth and destroying it.

Season 3[]

  • After having a chat with Goofy, he would help the Duck Family break out of the simulation he had accidentally created.
  • During the Trickening, he would try his best to stop Della from scaring kids simply for the fun of it.
  • While he did invade what was apparently four rich guys' bathrooms, including Scrooge's in order to ask for money, he did this out of a want for people to listen to him rather than any malicious intent, and after landing a gig, he would proceed to stop this behavior all together.
  • After seeing the abusive treatment Emma Glamour was giving Daisy, he would proceed to stand up for her as well as stopping Falcon Greaves in the process.
  • When Mrs. Beakley was trying to force Webby into fighting her and seeing that her antics had almost gotten Huey and Dewey killed, he confronted her, telling her that she was going too far, saying that this wasn't the right way to protect her granddaughter.
  • She, along with Huey, Webby and Dewey saved Mrs. Beakley from falling off of McDuck Manor.
  • While he rejected going on a last adventure with Della initially, after seeing that Huey was kidnapped, he proceeded to change his mind and went to stop FOWL with the rest of his family.
  • When his life was being threatened, with the only way of surviving being Scrooge giving up adventure, he tried to convince him otherwise, showing that he values others' lives over his own.
  • He would ultimately adopt May and June and take care of them as if they were his own children.

Trivia[]

  • He was previously approved as Inconsistently Admirable (just like his original counterpart), mainly due to him being a berserker and incompetent, however he was approved as Near Pure Good as he subverted his wrath and incompetence, until he was later approved as Pure Good due to him subverting all of his previous corrupting qualities.
    • It makes him a rare example of a hero who was almost every type of hero on the Moral Scale at some point, excluding Heroic Benchmark.
  • He is the only version of Donald Duck to be Pure Good, as his mainstream counterpart is Inconsistently Admirable (although his counterpart in Mickey, Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers has been voted as Near Pure Good).
