Not just a Spark Hunter... I was their LEADER. Cursa gave me an EDGE, with just enough free will to lead - to think. That edge let me see Cursa for what it is - a black hole of greed leading to a bottomless pit of misery. Bedrock, Midnite, Daphne - I tried to turn them to the light, instead they turned on me. So I hit the road - tried to save what Sparks I could 'fore they got their hands on 'em. That's the truth of it. I didn't say anything 'cause I figured you didn't have a reason to believe me.
~ Edge

Edge is one of the protagonists who has first appeared in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. She is the former leader of the Spark Hunters before she chose to leave due to seeing just how evil Cursa was and teams up with Mario and the rest of the heroes on their mission to save the Sparks and Rosalina.

What Makes Her Pure Good?[]

  • While Edge is a created being, she was already given a free will to make her own decisions and displays a very clear moral agency and it shows that when she saw how monstrous Cursa was, she turned away and instead goes out to save the Sparks and chose to do good, even though she was risking serious punishment for treason against her creator and potential death.
  • Despite being created to carry out an evil purpose, none of her heinous actions were ever given any screen time to show any kind of severe corrupting factors she would have displayed before her reformation and when she is properly introduced, she has already defected to Mario's side.
  • While the Rabbids, even the ones in Super Mario based attire, were often light-hearted and comedic most of the time, Edge is one of the very few Rabbids who is presented in a serious light. Sparks of Hope has a darker tone, but Edge is not the reason why.
  • Once Edge learned of the kind of being Cursa truly was, she attempted to help reform the Spark Hunters, but it resulted in them betraying her. Even though it wasn't presented on screen, she confirms that actually did that.
  • When Twinkle was cornered by Cursa's minions who try to abduct it, Edge managed to step in and defeat all of them in quick succession to protect it.
    • When she sees that Twinkle is scared of her, she puts her sword down and assures it that she is not its enemy and allows it to approach her, and she actually means it.
  • While Edge is a very confident hero, sometimes to the point of being a little cocky, she isn't selfish and she never acts condescending towards others nor act like she is better than anyone else, not even to her old buddies, the Spark Hunters and she shows great confidence in her friends that they will make it through and it shows in some Darkmess Puddle battles where she is paired with the other characters.
  • In the team composed of mostly light-hearted teammates, Edge provides seriousness, acts as the voice of reason among them and is the one who keeps them in line, as shown when she makes it clear that there is something else behind the scenes after a disastrous event passes.
  • She makes it clear to Midnite that she won't ever be returning to the side of evil and tells her to release Rabbid Rosalina and to join her and her allies, although it again does not work.
  • Even after the Spark Hunters turned against her, Edge still ultimately cares for them and proves to be very honorable. After defeating Midnite, she had every reason to kill her when she is completely vulnerable, but she still values their friendship and chooses to spare her instead because she knows that killing her would only make a monster out of herself and she also does the same with Bedrock, and even though she denies being friends with her, she doesn't want her allies to know about her dark origins as well as her former connections with the Spark Hunters despite the fact that she knows their names. This contrasts with Cursa, who tried to crush Midnite and Bedrock for their failure in retrieving the Sparks later on, showing she only saw them as mere tools and never cared for them (or Daphne, even though she succeeded in capturing the Sparks for her).
  • In The Tower of Doooom DLC, she takes part in rescuing Spawny, a key character from Kingdom Battle as well as the friend of Mario and co., who was held captive at the top of the tower.
  • In The Last Spark Hunter DLC, she contributes to saving Melodic Gardens from fading away to nothingness when Darkmess was reported to be infecting it and also managed to defeat Kanya, who was supposed to be the leader of the Spark Hunters in her place, but she also left Cursa and the Spark Hunters and instead chose to be evil on her own accord.
  • Even though she often refuses to provide any information about herself and tends to rebuff her allies and deflect the subject for the most part when asked about it, she was doing that because she is already aware of her former allegiance with the Spark Hunters and she is mostly afraid that if they knew about it, they would not believe her and stop trusting her which would have costed her valuable allies, who share the same goal of saving the Sparks, and it's something she knows that she cannot do alone.
  • After defeating Darkmess Edge, she gets around to admitting that she was once the leader of the Spark Hunters while explaining why she never told them in the first place, and it was very clear that she felt great remorse over it. After her new allies tell her that her good actions already gave solid reasons to trust her and she is part of their family, Edge was grateful for this.
  • Edge helps her friends in saving Rosalina and the drained Sparks from Cursa's grasp and managed to destroy her once and for all. Even though she killed many of Cursa's minions, including Cursa herself, it was mainly self-defense, and considering that Cursa is an omnicidal maniac who can't be reasoned with, doing so was absolutely necessary to save the world.
  • When Rosalina asks Edge on what she will do, she, along with Rabbid Rosalina, resolves to stay with their new friends, whom they view as their family, and doing so, they have someone who will keep them in line.

Trivia[]

  • Edge's characterization was inspired by Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII and Guts from the manga series Berserk, both of whom are ironically Inconsistently Admirable.
  • Edge is one of the very first Pure Good characters who is actually a Rabbid, the very species known for their comedic sides, dull-wittedness, insanity, and anti-heroic natures.
