Eijiro Kirishima, also known as the Sturdy Hero: Red Riot, is a major character in the My Hero Academia franchise.

He is one of the students in U.A High and he is studying in Class 1-A at the Hero Studies course to become a Pro Hero. Eijiro's quirk, Hardening, allows him to harden and/or sharpen any part of his body at will.

He has an outgoing, friendly, and determined attitude, ready to take on any challenge that comes his way, and shows a high respect towards honest, tough, and righteous figures, deeming such actions as "manly". At the same time, he dislikes opposite attitudes such as cowardice or cheating. He has a very noble and willing personality, as well as being kind-hearted and friendly towards his fellow classmates, often being the most chivalrous person in the class.

He is voiced by Toshiki Masuda in Japanese and Justin Cook in English.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • Like the rest of his friends, he is strongly loyal to U.A, his class, and his teammates.
  • He is shown to be incredibly supportive and humble towards others, always praising them for their strength and skills.
  • He always stood up for the underclassmen who were being bullied.
  • While the admirable standards are quite high, Kirishima stands out for having fewer resources than Izuku, Bakugo, and even Shoto, while also performing unique admirable deeds that helped Kirishima stand out from the rest.
  • While he does have moments of arrogance, he quickly overcomes this trait and is not afraid to admit his flaws, demonstrating how humble he truly is on the inside.
    • Furthermore, one of his early flaws was a lack of tactical thinking and impulsive tendencies on the battlefield; he improves from this stage by becoming slightly smarter and wiser over time, as well as more informed than when he was "book-dumb."
  • Even though he frequently acts mischievously toward Bakugo (ex. when he and Sero made fun of Bakugo's new haircut in the Vs. Hero Killer Arc), these actions are merely played for laughs because Kirishima was only making fun of Bakugo for fun and did not do anything seriously hurtful to him, even when Bakugo was acting irascible over a small joke that made him feel butthurt and nothing else.

Background[]

  • Admired his ideal hero, Crimson Riot, and learned a lesson from him where as long as he has a strong spirit, quirks don't even matter.
  • In Mustafa Private Middle School, he attempted to protect a student from bullies. Despite the bullies' harsh words to him, and his friends saying that they shouldn't go bother them, he was still determined to help the underclassman.
  • He almost gave up on his dream of becoming a hero because of his insecurities, but Crimson Riot's words inspired him after he realized that it is okay to be afraid when putting your life in danger. With this, he committed himself to training himself and studying hard in order to pass the U.A. entrance Exam and he succeeded.
  • After being unable to act against Gigantomachia, he apologizes to the two female classmates for not being able to help them.
  • Saved civilians from a villain, using his attacks by protecting them.

  • He suggests the operation to free Bakugo from the League because he is fed up with being powerless. Later, Eijiro acknowledges that he is aware that professional heroes should handle this, but he still urges Izuku to carry out the plan in order to save their friend.
    • Thanks to Eijiro maintaining a good friendship, it allowed Bakugou to accept his helping hand while he needed to be rescued.
