Jane Ives, (legally changed to Jane Ives-Hopper-Byers), better known as Eleven and El, is one of the main protagonists of the Stranger Things franchise.
She is a teen girl with telekinetic powers, who has been raised in a government lab in Hawkins, Indiana, for most of her life, before escaping and meeting Mike Wheeler and his friends, who she helps protect from the forces from the Upside Down, an alien dimension.
She is played by Millie Bobby Brown.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Absolutely nothing she does is out of pragmatism as she only ever uses her powers in defense of herself and her loved ones and only wants to uplift them and protect humanity from evil.
- She deeply loves Mike Wheeler and will do anything to protect him.
- Overall, she subverts her pettiness and brutality, which were pretty frugal to begin with, throughout the third and fourth seasons. Hence, she has nothing corrupting about her whatsoever.
Background[]
- She agrees to help One escape, thinking he's a good person, and is horrified when he kills most of those in the lab. Despite the other children having bullied her and even tried to kill her, Eleven still cries over their deaths.
- She rejects One's offer of world domination without a second thought, drawing on her memory of her mother to defeat him and banish him to the Upside Down.
- She refuses to torture and murder a white cat. All of this shows that the little girl's indifference for power and strong regard for life is entirely innate.
Season 1[]
- She saves Mike and Dustin from Troy and James, even using her telekinetic abilities to save Mike when he jumped of the side of a cliff.
- She is very grateful for everything Mike Wheeler does for her.
- She helps the boys find Will, and defends them from government agents, overusing her powers in order to take them down.
- She fights and destroys the Demogorgon, seemingly sacrificing herself.
Season 2[]
- She bonds with her "sister" Kali and understands her desire for revenge even though she doesn't agree with what Kali is doing.
- She is able to forgive the man who tortured her mother and saves him from being killed by Kali.
- She apologizes to Hopper for her childish and petty behavior, and he confesses this is rationalized by him lying about how long she would be cooped up for.
- She saves her friends from an attack by the Demodogs.
- She uses her powers to close the gate, preventing the Mind Flayer from destroying Hawkins.
Season 3[]
- She becomes close friends with Max, despite previously being jealous of her.
- While she briefly dumped Mike after learning that he had lied to her on why he couldn't spend time with her, they later made up at the hospital when a creature of the Mind Flayer was attacking.
- She helps fight off the Mind Flayer again, continuing to boldly stand up to its proxy when it strips her of her powers, and is able to free Billy from the Mind Flayer's influence by reminding him of his positive memories, enabling Billy's sacrifice.
- She comforted Max after Billy was killed by the Mind Flayer.
- She, like Joyce, was devastated when she believed Hopper to have been killed when he didn't return with Joyce to the mall parking lot.
Season 4[]
- She tries to forgive Angela for bullying her and asks her to apologize, and when she hits Angela with a skate, she is instantly remorseful when she sees Angela crying. And to be fair, it is argued that Angela completely deserved it for the horrible bullying she did on her.
- She stands up to Brenner when she regains her powers, telling him that he has caused everything bad that's happened, and decides to return to Hawkins to save her friends from Vecna.
- She takes down Colonel Sullivan's forces who are attacking her and her friends. She violently destroyed the plane containing the sniper solely as a last resort, so it is completely justified.
- Despite everything Brenner did to her, she was saddened when Brenner died, showing she does not wish death on her enemies.
- She tries to reason with Vecna as she tried to appeal to his inner goodness only to be rejected.
- She puts up a brave fight against Vecna to protect Max, drawing on her love for Mike, and is able to defeat him.
- She uses her powers to restart Max's heart when she is half dead.
Trivia[]
- Originally, she was considered as a Near Pure Good as it was believed that she had too much corrupting qualities. But, she was then approved as PG when she subverted all of her corrupting factors and became a better person.
