Emily Merrimack, also known as the Corpse Bride, is the titular deuteragonist of the 2005 stop-motion animated musical fantasy comedy-drama film of the same name.
She was an undead bridal woman who got indirectly revived by Victor Van Dort while he was practicing a wedding vow that was meant for his actual fiancée Victoria Everglot. She was later revealed to be the ex-fiancée and victim of the infamous golddigger Barkis Bittern.
She was voiced by Helena Bonham Carter.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- Before the events of the movie, she fell in love with Barkis Bittern (unaware of his true nature) and when her parents wouldn't let her marry him, she lied to him out of love for him.
- When Victor rehearsed the vows (although he was just practicing) and placed the ring on his finger, she easily accepted it, not knowing that this marriage was a mistake.
- She brought Victor's childhood dog Scraps back to him.
- She allowed Victor to visit his parents (in fact, he wanted to visit his fiancée Victoria).
- Although she was jealous of Victoria and acted hostile towards her, she didn't know that Victor was already in love with Victoria before their "marriage" and not to mention, he did indeed lie to her, so it is understandable.
- Even after learning that Victor could only marry her if he died as well, she still refused to force him to kill himself and let it up to him if he truly wanted to marry her or not.
- She used her body to protect Victor from Barkis when the latter attempted to stab him.
- Although she had her chance of killing Barkis as revenge, she preferred to simply send him away.
- This may indicate that she respects the rule that the dead cannot do anything to the living.
- For some reason, Emily's murder didn't turn her into a misandrist. Granted, she did befriended Victor, whom she initially thought was going to marry her, but has decided to let him go for him to be with Victoria.
- Forgave Victor for lying to her.
- At the end of the film, she realized it was best to let Victoria keep Victor and returned the ring to him so they could get married.
Trivia[]
- She was originally Near Pure Good due to being incredibly clingy towards Victor to the point where after she catches Victor with Victoria, her reaction is to forcibly drag him back to the underworld and express hostility towards Victoria, but she was later re-approved as Pure Good due to allowing Victor to marry Victoria, proving that she was no longer jealous of Victoria anymore.
