“ | They say that when one door closes, another opens. Well, a door closed tonight. And what a long night it was--but not just for me. Mia and I weren't the only victims here. So were the Bakers. It was that...thing, Eveline, who made them that way. But now Eveline's dead. And these guys are here to clean up the mess. I had just come to terms with losing Mia. But now she's back and wants to start over--put all of this behind us. Maybe this is where the next door opens. | „ |

~ Ethan's final words |
Ethan Winters is the main protagonist of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and its sequel Resident Evil Village and the overarching protagonist of the DLC Shadows of Rose. He was a system engineer in Los Angeles who was caught up in the incident at the Dulvey Haunted House and the European Village.
He was voiced by Todd Soley.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- While Ethan isn’t exactly a trained soldier or spy looking to save the world like Chris, Leon, Jill & Ada, he stands out for doing everything in his power to save his family Mia & Rose, like losing limbs and having his heart ripped out and his low resources.
- In spite of being lethal, most of the people Ethan killed was out self-defense like Mia and Jack, were monsters like the Lycans or molded, or had it coming such as Miranda, Dimitrescu & Eveline,
- Although he’s brutal at times, such as when he put an axe into Mia’s shoulder presumably killing her, running Jack over with a car, drilling the inside of Jack’s head with a chainsaw making his top half blow up from the inside out, and stabbing the Angie doll in the head with scissors knowing it is sentient but not that it’s Donna herself, this doesn’t happen too often nor does he show sadism and this was in self-defense.
- Although he does show hatred towards villains such as Mother Miranda, Eveline, and the House Lords, this is heavily justified, since they were cruel and evil individuals who had hurt a lot of people for their own gains. Not to mention Miranda and the House Lords brutally tore apart his infant daughter, hence his anger towards them being completely reasonable.

- When Eveline transformed into a monstrous form, Ethan fought her using experimental weapons provided by the BSAA and defeated her for good.
