It's not that I want an ideal country or great justice or anything complicated like that. I just want to see people smiling.
~ Euphemia li Britannia.

Euphemia li Britannia is a supporting character from the 2006 anime Code Geass. She is a Britannian princess who is appointed to help her sister Cornelia govern Area 11, and tries to use her position to secure equal rights for the Japanese and help end the war between Zero and Britannia so that her brother Lelouch can live happily.

She was voiced by Omi Minami in the Japanese version and by Michelle Ruff in the English dub.

What Makes Her Pure Good?[]

  • She's a very pacifistic, respectful, and kindhearted person, and one of the fewest Britannia who has no prejudice towards the Japanese.
  • She loves Lelouch and Nunnally and feels terrible about their exile, and wants to help them, while she tries to inspire Lelouch to become a better person and use diplomacy to achieve his goals.
  • She loves Suzaku and stands up for him when he's bullied, smacking a racist Britannian who was threatening him.
  • She runs unarmed into a battle between Jeremiah and the Purist Faction, revealing her identity and commanding a stop to the battle.
  • When caught in a hostage crisis, she reveals her identity when Nina Einstein is threatened, trying to use her status to secure the release of other hostages. She also meets Zero during this incident and is able to figure out that he's Lelouch, without even seeing him unmasked, but protects his secret.
  • She selects Suzaku to be her personal knight despite the controversy this will cause. When Cornelia scolds her by saying prejudice against Japanese is an established policy and only the Emperor can change it, Euphemia stands up to her and states that she will do whatever it takes to change this policy regardless.
  • When she learns Suzaku has been ordered to restrain Zero so he can be killed in a bombing, Euphemia tries to save them both by taking over a Knightmare and rushing to the scene to try to get the order withdrawn.
  • Upon meeting Lelouch face to face, she apologizes for how he was treated by the royal family, assuring him that she'll keep his secret, and reconnects with Lelouch and Nunnally as a result.
  • She contacts Suzaku as he's about to be overrun by an invading force, telling him she loves him and he has to live for her sake. This gives Suzaku the resolve to keep fighting, and he takes down the enemy force with help from Lelouch.
  • She announces the creation of the Special Zone of Japan, where the Japanese will have equal rights, desiring to end the war and help Lelouch and Nunnally live happily.
  • She has her aide Darlton arrest corrupt Britannian nobles who were profiting from the war.
  • She meets with Lelouch and is able to convince him to support her plan, calmly rebutting his arguments against it and assuring him that she's doing this to support Zero and his cause and has given up her claim to the Britannian throne in order to do this. Lelouch agrees that she has won and only asks to help her as an equal partner, which she happily accepts. If Lelouch hadn't tragically lost control of his Geass, it's likely that the war could have ended peacefully right there.
  • She's horrified by her Geass order to "kill the Japanese" due to it being completely against her nature and tries to resist it as long as she can before it overrides her personality.
  • In her final moments, her love for Suzaku allows her to defeat her Geass entirely, which is supposed to be impossible.
