“ | I'm in love with you. I became a Warrior candidate because I didn't want you to inherit the Armored Titan. I wanted you to live a long life, so that we could get married and you could be happy forever. | „ |
~ Falco Grice confessing his love to Gabi Braun |
Falco Grice, also known as the Jaw Titan and later, the Flying Titan, is a major character in the Attack on Titan franchise.
Falco is an Eldian boy who lives in Marley, within Liberio, and who is a candidate to inherit the Armored Titan. He intends to become the next Armored Titan in order to ensure his fellow candidate, Gabi Braun, does not inherit it, to ensure she can live a long, peaceful life.
He is voiced by Natsuki Hanae in Japanese who has voiced Tanjiro Kamado, and by Bryson Baugus in English.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- He never displays a single corrupting quality or negative personality trait throughout the entire story, being always portrayed as completely reasonable, level-headed, kind, and forgiving in general, as well as never being shown to be afraid of anything, and being always portrayed as brave and always willing to rush to defend those he loves, putting his life on the line.
- Falco only wanted to inherit the Armored Titan to save Gabi from being its next inheritor.
- During the Marley Mid-East War, when Gabi is nearly shot down by enemy soldiers, Falco rushes in to try and save her and nearly dies in the process.
- He brings a wounded enemy soldier from the battlefield into the Marleyan trench to try and patch him up, saving him from bleeding to death, despite the soldier's hatred.
- When returning to Liberio, he helps a wounded veteran named Kruger who fell up onto his feet. After this moment, he reencounters the veteran, who gives him some wisdom and encourages him to have more confidence in himself. When Kruger asks him to mail some letters to his family outside the city's internment zone, despite knowing he could get caught and be punished, chooses to mail them anyway out of gratitude for Kruger.
- Falco remains humble when praised for his increased performance, attributing his success to Kruger's words of encouragement.
- When Kruger reveals himself to be Eren Yeager, though deeply angry and hurt by Eren's betrayal and deception, after hearing about the death of Eren's mother at the hands of Warriors and his statement of people around the world being the same, Falco takes Eren's words to heart and doesn't bear any true hatred against him and doesn't desire vengeance against him either.
- He is very empathetic towards his senior Reiner and understands his suffering, choosing to leave him alone and not drag him into battle when his morale is too low, giving Reiner words of comfort by reminding him that the people of Liberio are on his side and love him no matter what.
- When Pieck is targeted by Jean with a Thunder Spear, Falco rushes in front of Pieck to defend her and begs Jean not to attack, causing Jean to miss and giving enough time for reinforcements to arrive, saving Pieck in the process.
- Even after Eren and the Survey Corps caused a lot of death and destruction by raiding Liberio, and his two friends Udo and Zofia were killed in the attack, when Gabi calls the attack unforgivable, Falco replies by assuming that the Survey Corps probably attacked out of retaliation for what the Warriors did to the Walls of Paradis, remembering Eren's words, although Gabi disagrees with using "revenge" as a justification to kill, despite feeling the same herself.
- When Gabi flies up to the escape airship to try and take on the Survey Corps herself, Falco holds on and goes up to the airship in order to protect her.
- Although he is deeply hurt towards his superior Zeke Yeager upon finding out that he betrayed Marley and he is also the one who masterminded the Raid on Liberio (Zeke's own home) which caused the deaths of Udo and Zofia and many innocent civilians, Falco does not appear to bare any hostility or sentiment ot revenge against him, much to Gabi's dismay.
- After they're imprisoned, when Gabi fakes a seizure to get the guard's attention and Gabi assaults the guard to kill him (possibility implied in the manga, while actually killed in the anime), Falco criticizes her for her excessive violence, once again showing compassion for his enemies.
- When they encounter Kaya in the woods, he stops Gabi from getting violent and makes her put down a rock she picked up to kill Kaya, going along with her and pretending to be two children from Paradis Island who ran away from home.
- When Kaya reveals she knew they were from Marley all along, Gabi tries to attack her with a pitchfork, but Falco stops her.
- After Kaya explains how her mother died at the hands of a Pure Titan and asks why she deserved to die so horribly when she did nothing wrong, Falco tells her sensitive (though outdated and no longer important) information about Marley's canceled recon mission that was meant to stage for a future larger attack on the Walls using Pure Titans. With sadness in his eyes, he apologizes to Kaya for what happened to her mother despite having no reason to apologize.
- Falco saves Gabi from Niccolo after seeing the rising anger on his face, being knocked unconscious by the blow to the head from a wine bottle. As it happened, since the wine was infused with Zeke's spinal fluid, he indirectly saved Gabi from being infected with the spinal fluid.
- Despite having constantly suffered because of the actions of Zeke and Eren, and being imprisoned by the Eldians once more, he doesn't take any anger on the other prisoners from the enemy military when he is locked in a chamber with officers of the Military Police, instead making friendly acquaintance with the MP Commander Nile Dawk and the two sharing mutual sympathy for each other, ignoring their nationalities and affiliations to enemy militaries.
- He still does not express any desire to get revenge on Zeke and kill him, even after the latter killed his brother Colt with his scream to turn Falco into a Pure Titan, which burned Colt to death.
- Though Connie attempted to feed Falco to the Pure Titan of his mother, after Falco inherited the Jaw Titan from Galliard, he holds no resentment towards Connie for deceiving him, betraying his trust and nearly getting him eaten, working alongside Connie and Armin to stop the Rumbling and save his loved ones in the mainland and all humanity outside the island.
- Falco tries to help Annie and Reiner when fighting the Yeagerists, showing regret over having consumed Galliard and wanting to live up to the sacrifice he made.
- Though told to stay on the Azumabito boat with Gabi and Annie while the rest of his allies departed to stop Eren, he refused to stand by and transformed into the winged Jaw Titan form to aid in the battle, carrying Gabi and Annie with him and saving the lives of all his allies just before they're killed by Ymir's army of deceased Intelligent Titans.
- He helps his fellow Marleyans and the Survey Corps to halt the Rumbling and kill Eren, saving humanity before being wiped out completely, including his parents and masses of people from Liberio and Marley in general, and fulfilling his mission to protect Gabi and save his family, who reverted back into humans after being briefly turned into Pure Titans.
