~ Fi calling upon Link |
Fi is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Hylia) of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda franchise, serving as the deuteragonist of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and a minor character in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
She is the sword spirit that resides in the Master Sword and throughout the game, she provides advice to Link when he needs it. She was referenced in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when she chimed in to communicate with Princess Zelda as to advise her on what she should do to save Link and by extension the entire kingdom of Hyrule. She also chimes at one point in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity's Guardian of Remembrance DLC's secret ending to get Zelda's attention.
She was voiced by Ayumi Fujimura who also voiced Princess Zelda in A Link Between Worlds.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- She is very loyal to the goddess Hylia, and she takes on the role of a guide for the chosen hero as Hylia prepares to become a mortal to carry out the task of destroying Demise.
- She takes an active role alongside Link to help him save his childhood friend, Zelda, who was dragged to the Surface and is also on a mission to regain her memories as Hylia and strengthen the seal on Demise.
- When Demise is defeated and absorbed into the Master Sword, she willingly gives up the chance at having a normal life by entering into an eternal slumber to keep Demise contained, meaning she left a huge impact on all of the future timelines.
- Allowed her life to lay within the Master Sword for every future incarnation of Link to wield in the future beyond the events of Skyward Sword.
- In Breath of the Wild, when Link slips into a coma due to mortal wounds inflicted on him by the corrupted Guardians during the Great Calamity, she briefly reawakens to tell Princess Zelda that there is still hope for Link, causing the Princess to order the Sheikah soldiers to take Link to the Shrine of Resurrection while she brings the Master Sword to Korok Forest and makes necessary arrangements before sealing Ganon and herself over the course of the century, leading to the events of Breath of the Wild.
- In Tears of the Kingdom, after being badly damaged by Ganondorf's gloom, Fi subtly guides Link to use Recall and send her back in time, where she is able to regain her energy from Zelda and return in the present day, making the Master Sword stronger than ever, ready to defeat the Demon King.
- Although she had Goddess Hylia removed all her human emotions so she could carry out her purpose at her fullest as purely a logical and passive thinker during her creation, Fi displays a clear moral agency as much as her opposite Ghirahim, choosing to be on the side of good just as the latter choosing to be on the side of evil. Although she admits her understanding on human emotions she re-learned needs some work, the issue doesn't negatively affect her loyalty towards Link and co. (same loyalty that extends to Link's other incarnations), let alone doing what she thinks is the right course of action.
Trivia[]
- She is a good counterpart to Ghirahim, who is not coincidentally, a Pure Evil villain.
