Fire alone can save our Clan.
~ The prophecy about Firestar saving ThunderClan
I was not a forest-born cat, but ThunderClan welcomed me, and once I proved myself as a warrior, they grew to respect me.
~ Firestar, Secrets of the Clans
Fire will save the Clan...you never understood, did you? Not even when I gave you your apprentice name, Firepaw. And I doubted it myself, when fire raged through our camp. Yet I see the truth now. Fireheart, you are the fire who will save ThunderClan. You will be a great leader. One of the greatest the forest has ever known. You will have the warmth of fire to protect your Clan and the fierceness of fire to defend it. You will be Firestar, the light of ThunderClan.
~ Bluestar, A Dangerous Path

Firestar is one of the main protagonists in the Warriors book series. He is a ThunderClan leader who serves as the main protagonist of the original arc The Prophecies Begin and super edition Firestar's Quest, a major protagonist in The New Prophecy, Power of Three, Omen of the Stars, the graphic novels A Shadow in RiverClan and Winds of Change as well as Ravenpaw's Path trilogy, a supporting protagonist in the novellas Leafpool's Wish and Dovewing's Silence, super edition Bramblestar's Storm, A Vision of Shadows and The Broken Code, a minor protagonist in the graphic novel Exile from ShadowClan, a posthumous overarching protagonist in the super edition Crowfeather's Trial and a novella Spotfur's Rebellion, a cameo character in the novella Goosefeather's Curse and super editions Moth Flight's Vision and Bluestar's Prophecy and a mentioned character in the super editions SkyClan's Destiny and Hawkwing's Journey.

Firestar was destined through a prophecy by StarClan to save ThunderClan, as well as all the clans, from Tigerstar’s lust for power. He succeeds in doing so first by revealing his plot to kill Bluestar and take over ThunderClan’s leadership, resulting in his exile, and then by triumphing over BloodClan which Tigerstar brought into the forest, causing his own demise.

Firestar finally died from the wounds inflicted by Tigerstar’s spirit during the Great Battle against the Place of No Stars, but not before killing him as well, saving the clans once again. Even in death, he continues to help his former clanmates and is remembered as one of ThunderClan’s greatest warriors and leaders.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • He is overall very loyal and brave and never hesitates to fight if necessary.
  • He always tries to prevent conflict and favor diplomatic resolutions.
    • He often scolds his clanmates for attacking enemy patrols instead of favorizing diplomacy, and has a habit of apologizing to said patrols.
  • He often agrees for strangers to stay on ThunderClan’s territory when they have nowhere to go; he does so for Daisy, Stormfur, Brook or Tawnypelt for example.
    • He always shows respect to stranger cats, even if they are despised by other characters.
  • He deeply cares for his clanmates, his friends and his family and he often manages to develop affinities with cats from other clans or loners like Ravenpaw and Barley.
  • As a former kittypet, he understands the toil of being born outside the clans and he is very tolerant towards strangers.
  • Even after his death, he continues to help his clanmates by delivering prophecies and he reassures Bramblestar about his leadership skills.

The Prophecies Begin[]

  • He feeds Yellowfang when he finds her starving on ThunderClan’s territory, even though she’s an enemy and an intruder who attacked him moments ago.
    • He then takes pleasure in taking care of the she-cat, even though it was a punishment at first, and becomes friends with her.
  • He never shows hostility towards Dustpaw and Sandpaw despite the latter’s mockeries and contempt.
  • He helps Ravenpaw to escape from ThunderClan to save him from Tigerclaw and lies about his death only to protect him.
    • Immediately after that, he enters ShadowClan’s territory alongside Graypaw in an attempt not only to save ThunderClan’s kittens but to protect Yellowfang, whom he believes is innocent, from his own clanmates.
  • Upon learning that Brokenstar is responsible for ShadowClan’s suffering, he helps their elders to fight and overthrow the tyrant.
  • He brings back WindClan to the forest with the help of Graystripe and becomes friends with Onewhisker and Morningflower, even helping her to carry her kit.
  • He saves Sandpaw from inevitable death by pushing her away from the gorge during a battle with RiverClan, despite her disliking him.
  • Although he disapproves of it, he keeps Graystripe’s relationship with a RiverClan she-cat, Silverstream, a secret, and trains his friend’s apprentice Brackenpaw.
  • He feels responsible for Cinderpaw’s leg injury as he thinks he has failed to teach her obedience, instead of blaming it on her imprudence.
  • He keeps Yellowfang’s secret that she is Brokenstar’s mother.
  • During a battle against RiverClan, as he is about to fight Silverstream, he decides not to hurt her upon seeing Graystripe’s alarmed face.
  • Unbeknownst to ThunderClan, he meets with Ravenpaw and RiverClan warriors to investigate Redtail’s and Oakheart’s deaths and expose Tigerclaw as a murderer and a traitor.
  • When ThunderClan kits are throwing rocks at a blind Brokentail, he sends them away even though the fallen leader probably deserved it.
  • Alongside Graystripe, he saves Mistyfoot’s kits from drowning in the river and becomes friends with her.
  • Upon learning that RiverClan is starving, he decides to help them by fetching prey for them unbeknownst to his clan.
  • He saves Bluestar from Tigerclaw and defeats the latter, thwarting and revealing his plot to take ThunderClan’s leadership by force.
    • He then asks Cinderpaw to treat Tigerclaw’s wounds, as he doesn’t like to see him suffer despite his treachery.
  • He keeps for himself that Yellowfang killed her own son, Brokentail, by feeding him deathberries.
  • He allows Cinderpelt to take care of Whitethroat and Littlecloud on ThunderClan’s territory even though they are ShadowClan warriors.
  • When Halftail, Patchpelt and Bramblekit are reported missing during a massive fire, he goes back to ThunderClan’s camp with Yellowfang to save them.
    • He tries to save Patchpelt and rescues Bramblekit from a burning tree, even though he distrusts the kit for being Tigerclaw’s son.
    • He feels guilty when Yellowfang ends up being trapped in ThunderClan’s camp and he goes back later, hoping to save her, only to be wrecked with grief over her death.
  • When Bluestar decides to attack WindClan for stealing ThunderClan’s prey, which they didn’t, Fireheart pays Tallstar a visit to arrange a peaceful meeting with Bluestar and avoid fighting, even though it goes against the warrior code and the opinion of most of his clanmates, including his own mate, Sandstorm.
  • He reveals to Stonefur and Mistyfoot that Bluestar is their mother; even though it infuriates them, he did it only to protect Bluestar and to avoid having to fight her children in front of her.
  • He feels terribly guilty for Swiftpaw’s death and Brightpaw’s mauled face, even though they died not because of him but because Bluestar refused to give them their warrior names.
  • Even though he first rejects Longtail for being a former support of Tigerstar, he apologizes and accepts to listen to him, even growing to consider him as one of his most loyal warriors.
  • He creates a plan to lure the dog pack towards the river to get rid of them and takes on the hardest part, being the last cat to take them to the gorge.
    • All along he hopes for his clanmates to make it alive.
  • When Bluestar intervenes to save him from the dogs and falls into the river, he doesn't hesitate to jump down to save her.
  • When he confronts Darkstripe about poisoning Sorrelkit with deathberries, he admits that he wanted to give the warrior a chance to prove his loyalty, and he asks for silence when the clan hisses at Darkstripe.
  • Alongside Graystripe and Ravenpaw, he rescues Mistyfoot, Stormpaw and Featherpaw from Tigerstar in RiverClan, and he is horrified when Stonefur is executed by Blackfoot and Darkstripe.
  • He sends help to WindClan when Tigerstar attacks them, even though it’s too late.
  • He is horrified and shows pity to Tigerstar when Scourge rips open his belly, taking his nine lives at once through long and painful agony.
  • He unites all the clans in fighting against BloodClan, forming LionClan, and he acts as its leader.
  • He stops fighting to rush at a dying Whitestorm’s side and complies with his last will of naming Graystripe as his successor as ThunderClan’s deputy. He also deeply mourns him.
  • He manages to kill Scourge which prompts BloodClan to flee, putting an end to the battle and fulfilling the prophecy of the fire saving ThunderClan.

Firestar's Quest[]

  • When he is visited by the spirit of SkyClan’s former leader, Cloudstar, he accepts to rebuild the lost clan and succeeds in doing so with the help of Sandstorm.
    • He even loses a life in the process, being killed during the fight against the rats.
  • As opposed to most cats, he doesn’t despise Sky nor does he consider him as a lunatic; rather, he pays him a friendly visit during which he respectfully listens to him.
  • He helps Rainfur save his mate Petal and their kits from their violent Twoleg.

The New Prophecy[]

  • He feels genuinely guilty when Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw leave ThunderClan and he sends patrols to look for them, thinking he scared them away by being too stern.
    • Though he acted as a jerk to them, it is justified by his fear that their relationship could ruin ThunderClan according to a vision Cinderpelt and Leafpaw had.
  • He goes to see Blackstar to peacefully discuss the Twolegs destroying the forest and stops a violent confrontation with Russetfur.
  • When it is discovered that WindClan had been stealing prey to ThunderClan, instead of attacking them he proposes to meet with Tallstar, citing the old leader’s nobleness to argue that he probably doesn't know about the offense.
    • During the meeting, he stops Graystripe from fighting Mudclaw, wanting to maintain a peaceful conversation.
  • He sends a patrol to ShadowClan to help them in evacuating their camp as it is being destroyed by the Twolegs, even losing a life in the process.
  • He fights on Onewhisker’s side when Hawkfrost and Mudclaw attack WindClan’s camp to take the power.
  • He is distraught when Onestar rejects their friendship after becoming WindClan’s new leader.
  • He welcomes Daisy and her three kits in ThunderClan in spite of the fact that they are kittypets and extra mouths to feed.
  • He accepts to send a patrol to support ShadowClan in defeating the kittypets who killed one of their apprentices.
  • He fights on the front line against the badgers invading ThunderClan’s camp.
  • He is happy when he sees Leafpool come back to ThunderClan, even though she broke the warrior code by fleeing with Crowfeather, a WindClan warrior.
  • He agrees to Stormfur and Brook staying with ThunderClan, although they are cats from the mountains (and formerly from RiverClan in Stormfur’s case).
    • When his warriors contest his decisions to welcome more and more strangers in the clan, he turns them down, affirming that they are benefiting ThunderClan.
  • After he is saved from Hawkfrost by Brambleclaw, despite the latter hesitating to kill Firestar, he reassures him that he did the right thing in spite of his difficult path, and he keeps him as his deputy.

Power of Three[]

  • He yields a part of ThunderClan’s territory to ShadowClan as a diplomatic way of avoiding violence and conflict.
  • He accepts Graystripe’s mate Millie, a former kittypet, into ThunderClan.
  • He refuses to take advantage of the dog attack on WindClan when Jaypaw suggests doing so after he had a vision; rather, he sends a patrol to help them.
  • He insists on not attacking WindClan when it is evidenced that they are trespassing and stealing prey on ThunderClan territory.
  • He stops Lionpaw from badly hurting Mosspelt in the heat of a battle.
  • He agrees for Tawnypelt and her kits to remain on ThunderClan’s territory for a while when they are starving, despite them being from ShadowClan and being extra mouths to feed.
  • When Ashfur is found dead on the border with WindClan territory, he refuses to attack WindClan without further proof that one of their warriors murdered him, despite a lot of his own clanmates pleading him to immediately launch an attack.
    • When Sol is suspected, he applies the same judgment, affirming that he will punish him depending on the evidence whether he killed Ashfur or not.

Omen of the Stars[]

  • Under the influence of his senior warriors, he reluctantly accepts to attack ShadowClan to take back a piece of land that he gave them moons before but he still insists on visiting Blackstar to make him aware of his intentions, hoping to take care of the situation peacefully.
  • As the fourth cat of the “kin of your kin” prophecy, he establishes a plan with Jayfeather, Lionblaze, Dovewing and the other leaders to fight against the Dark Forest.
  • He fights and defeats Tigerstar, killing him a second time and dying in the process as the hero who saved the clans once again.
