“ | For the colony, and for oppressed ants everywhere! | „ |
~ Flik leaving the island. |
“ | You're wrong, Hopper. Ants are not meant to serve grasshoppers! I've seen these ants do great things, and year after year, they somehow manage to pick enough food for themselves and you! So-so who's the weaker species?! Ants don't serve grasshoppers! It's you who need us! We're a lot stronger than you say we are! And you know it, don't you? | „ |
~ Flik, while standing up to Hopper and praising his colony for being strong in numbers during his speech causing the ants to finally stand to the grasshoppers. |
Flik is the main protagonist of Pixar's 2nd full-length animated feature film A Bug's Life.
He was voiced by Dave Foley.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- He always maintained a helpful attitude, coming up with new plans and inventions to help the colony advance and adapt while reducing work for the workers.
- He isn't resentful of Princess Atta and the other ants who constantly reject him and treat him like a nobody.
- When Dot was self-doubting herself and believing she couldn't do anything because she was little, Flik comforted her and explained she had plenty of time to develop and become great.
- He felt greatly remorseful for unintentionally getting all of the food falling into the lake and tries to save it, only to failed due to not being strong enough.
- When Hopper attempts to have Dot fed to Thumper, he stands up to Hopper and told him to leave Dot alone.
- He attempts to make up for his mistake and free the colony from the control of the grasshoppers by hiring bigger bugs to help drive the grasshoppers away.
- Along with the Circus Bugs, he helps save Dot and Francis from a mother bird.
- He comforts Princess Atta when she expressed insecurity in herself and the ants waiting to see her screw up in spite of the way she treated him.
- He forgives Princess Atta and the other ants for their mistreatment of him.
- He creates a plan along with the Circus Bugs to make a giant bird to scare Hopper away from the ant colony permanently.
- When the Circus Bugs were exposed and Flik's lie was revealed, he felt greatly ashamed of the way he betrayed the trust of the ants and leaves the ant colony as self-imposed punishment.
- After learning of Hopper returning and his intention to squish the queen, he returns to the ant colony with the rest of the circus bugs to go forward with their original plan.
- When the bird is destroyed and Hopper demands to know who's responsible, he selflessly takes the blame to ensure that none of the other child ants are hurt.
- After Hopper berates the ants as mere slaves for grasshoppers, he defends the ant colony, correctly noting that they manage to pick enough food for the grasshoppers and for themselves every year. The speech Flik gave to the other ants the courage to finally stand up to Hopper, causing the grasshoppers to retreat.
- While he tricked Hopper into getting himself killed by a real bird, it was played for satisfaction, as Hopper deserved it for oppressing and mistreating him and the other ants.
- He frees the ant colony from the control of the grasshoppers after Hopper's death, making him a hero to the whole colony.
