Lady Furina de Fontaine is a major character in the 2020 action role-playing fantasy video game Genshin Impact, being the deuteragonist of Chapter IV: the Fontaine Archon Quest.
Furina is the human body of the Hydro Archon Focalors, who split her divinity away from her human body as part of a plan to deceive the Heavenly Principles and save Fontaine from destruction. Cursed with immortality by her divinity, she served as a figurehead playing the role of Hydro Archon for centuries.
Furina is voiced by Chen Qien in Chinese, Amber Lee Connors in English, Kim Ha-yeong in Korean, and Inori Minase in Japanese.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Though she acted arrogant as the Hydro Archon, this is merely a facade to make people believe in her godhood and by extension, to fool Celestia so they wouldn't notice Focalors' plan. Once the prophecy was solved, she ceased the act completely.
- While she was created from Focalors as part of her plan, this doesn't make her amoral because Focalors gave her human self all of her humanity, and Furina was given a choice and agreed to be a part of Focalors' plan.
- While she has to compete with Neuvillette, Focalors, and the Traveler in admirability, she still stands out thanks to undergoing centuries of suffering in order to save her people. As well as the fact that, apart from immortality, she didn't have any actual powers until she got her own Hydro Vision.
Background[]
- Accepted Focalors' plan of solving the prophecy by acting as the Hydro Archon for 500 years, while Focalors would find the real solution.
- She attended every trial for 500 years, as Focalors told her one of the trials would be the most important one yet, and never once took a break from her work as Hydro Archon for a single day, despite the burden on her own mental wellbeing.
Archon Quests[]
- While she accused Lyney, Lynette and Fatui of being behind the serial murders without hard evidence, this is an understandable assumption, as the Fatui has only caused trouble for all four previous nations in the main storyline. She also admitted her mistake after Lyney and Lynette were proven innocent.
- In addition of hoping that Focalors' plan would work, she also ordered her subordinates to collect data from all around Teyvat in order to come up with a contingency plan, in addition to attempting to prevent the coastline around the Fontaine Archipelago from advancing. What prevents this from being Fridge Brilliance is that said efforts were already implied to be futile, also helped that if the players advanced through the World Quests, they find remnants of civilizations which were wiped out for failing to defy the Heavenly Principles.
- She was so loyal to Focalors' plan that she wouldn't tell the Traveler her secrets, even if they were a Descender.
- Put her hand in Primodial Sea to prove her divinity, risking being dissolved doing so, which did not happen because Navia swapped out the sample of Primordial Seawater to one that is less concentrated, with Sigewinne monitoring for the symptoms of its exposure.
- Doesn't hold a grudge against her allies for setting up the trial to expose her true identity, even though it caused the people in Poisson who were present in the trial to despise her.
Story Quest[]
- Help Aurelie's troupe finish their final performance by giving writing advice and solving their internal conflict in honor of Aurelie, who was dissolved by Marcel.
- Aids Clorinde and Florian in defeating the Devorator after the latter unsealed the Marechausee Hunters' monument to eliminate the Devorator, preventing it from threatening Fontaine once and for all.
