Danjuro Tobita, more famously known as Gentle Criminal is a major supporting character in the My Hero Academia franchise.
He was originally the main antagonist of the U.A. School Festival Arc and planned to disrupt the festival to become famous, until being defeated by Izuku Midoriya. As a result, he gained a new outlook on life and worked on redeeming himself. He would later become a major ally in the war against the Paranormal Liberation Front, led by All For One and Tomura Shigaraki.
He is voiced by Kōichi Yamadera in Japanese, and John Gremillion in English.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- Despite being a villain in the beginning of the series, his crimes were non-violent as he only knocked out a few heroes in his path and has never harmed any innocent civilian.
- From his childhood, Danjuro wanted to be a hero to save innocent people.
- Only wanted to study at a Hero School in order to learn how to better save people, not out of any selfish intent.
- Although, he mainly only wanted to be great enough to never be forgotten, he wanted to be great by doing acts of kindness and heroism rather than just living the pro hero life.
- Intervened to save a window cleaner from falling to his death.
- Despite intervening when a Pro Hero was in the midst of saving him, it was completely accidental and he had no intent on harming either of them.
- Helped La Brava walk out of her suicidal state after she became inspired from one of his videos and even gave her the nickname La Brava and sharpied in his eyes so they’d be similar.
- Tried to stop La Brava from following him so that she won't be a criminal.
- Acknowledged Izuku Midoriya as a worthy adversary after nearly defeating him, which put Midoriya on the path of sympathizing with other villains and making him a better hero.
- Touched by Izuku's kindness despite him being a villain, Gentle abandoned his plans to disrupt the U.A. School Festival and redeemed himself.
- Tried to protect La Brava from getting arrested by proclaiming he brainwashed her into following him.
- Attempted to reason with the inmates from Mikuzu Prison, asking them if a path of villainy is what they truly desired.
- Stopped the prisoners from escaping and wreaking even more havoc on Japan (which had fallen into anarchy), saving countless lives as the prisoners expressed a desire to murder several people and instigate violence.
- To repay Midoriya for his sympathy towards him, he personally saved UA when it was falling to the ground and about to be destroyed, saving not only Midoryia but all the other heroes on top of and inside of the school helping in the fight against Shigaraki. Without Gentle's interference, Midoriya would've died and Shigaraki would've then destroyed the world.
- Warned the business course students to get inside of the school rather than risking their lives to continue filming, being perfectly fine with not getting any credit or fame for his heroics.
- Tried to go save All Might from All For One before preventing UA from falling yet again after All For One blasted the school.
- After helping UA land safely to the ground, he went to assist Cementoss and help the injured people.
- Joined the remaining heroes in the fight against Shigaraki (who had been possessed by All For One), encouraging Midoriya to do his utmost.

- Gentle is currently, the only former My Hero Academia villain to be Pure Good.
