Hashirama Senju is a major character in the manga and anime series Naruto. He is one of the founders of the Hidden Leaf Village and the First Hokage whose actions are pivotal in shaping the history of the Shinobi world.
He was voiced by Takayuki Sugō and Yūki Tai as a child in Japanese and Jamieson Price in part 1, Peter Lurie in part 2, JB Blanc in video games, and Max Mittelman as a child in English.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- He created a very strong friendship with Madara Uchiha: upon learning that he was an Uchiha and therefore his enemy, Hashirama did not want to throw away their friendship and still hoped that they could be friends.
- With all his fights against Madara, Hashirama never fought to kill him, showing that he still held onto their friendship.
- He never held any hatred or prejudice against the Uchiha clan despite the deaths of his brothers at the hands of Uchiha during the war.
- After having defeated Madara in their final duel, instead of choosing the easy route of killing Madara and defeating the Uchiha clan once and for all, Hashirama still attempted to break the cycle of vengeance and war by establishing peace between the two clans.
- When Madara explained that the only way to gain his trust would be to kill his brother, Tobirama, or kill himself, Hashirama did not hesitate to take his own life, actually thanking Madara and stating that he was truly kind. Before preparing to end his life, he ordered the rest of his clan not to avenge his death and fight the Uchiha clan. Before he prepared to stab himself, Madara stopped him, having been convinced of his noble intentions.
- He ended the centuries-old conflict between the Senju and Uchiha clans and established the Hidden Leaf Village. The village system created by Hashirama would also be used by the other nations.
- He stopped Madara from attacking the Hidden Leaf Village and while he technically killed him, he only did this after begging Madara to stop fighting and remember the dream they had as children. Even decades after both their deaths Hashirama still expresses great remorse in having to put his old friend down.
- He created the Five Kage Summit, where he gathered all the Kage from the other villages, bowing his head in gratitude before beginning the meeting. He then expressed his desire for cooperation and peace among the five nations.
- While he did capture the Tailed Beasts, this was done to distribute them to the other neighboring nations to promote positive relations. Furthermore, the Tailed Beasts do not have any control of their enormous power and can rampage, which would've potentially threatened the safety of the villages.
- When revived by Orochimaru, Hashirama apologies to his former student, Hiruzen Sarutobi for unintentionally caused him trouble due to Orochimaru controlling his body.
- When revived by Sasuke Uchiha, Hashirama listened to and understood the trauma he'd experienced as well as the injustices done to the Uchiha Clan, and chose to sit down and talk with Sasuke in spite of knowing about the Fourth Great Ninja War currently underway.
- He managed to convince Sasuke not to destroy the Hidden Leaf Village.
- He fought against Madara, Obito and the Ten-Tailed Beast while inspiring the other Allied Shinobi Forces to continue fighting.
- After Madara was defeated and on the verge of death, Hashirama sat down with him and reconciled him, forgiving Madara in spite of everything he did and stating that despite everything they were still friends, allowing Madara to die with some semblance of inner peace.
