Heather Langenkamp Porter is the main protagonist of Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, the seventh installment of the A Nightmare on Elm Street film franchise.
She is the fictionalized version of the actress of the same name, who portrayed Nancy Thompson in the previous films. In the film, after leaving the franchise behind, she got married to Chase Porter and had a son with him named Dylan, but was then forced to fight off an ancient demon who took the form of Freddy Krueger.
She was portrayed by her real-life counterpart, Heather Langenkamp.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- Protected her son when there was a earthquake going on
- When asked if she she showed Dylan the nightmare films she was in, she said no as he didn’t want him to be traumatized. Upon arriving at home and hearing Dylan start screaming and having another episode, she rushed in and began calming him down
- Reassured Dylan that she wouldn’t let his plushie Rex “die”
- Upon seeing Dylan awake after she woke up from a nightmare, she reassured her that it was just a bad dream before later encouraging him to go back to sleep
- Helped wipe Dylan’s bloody nose and later let him sleep in her bed while reassuring him he wouldn’t let anything bad happen to him
- Saved Dylan when he attempted to commit suicide by jumping off a tall thing at a playground.
- When Dylan started having a seizure, she brought him to a hospital
- Upon getting attacked by Freddy, she went to go check on Dylan to make sure he was okay
- Before going to get Rex for him, he told Julie not let Dylan go to sleep
- Tried to save Dylan when he the entity led him to undoing traffic
- Took the trail of sleeping medicine left by Dylan in order to fall asleep and rescue him from the Entity
- Saved Dylan from getting eaten by The Entity, which allowed him to later save her himself when The Entity started attacking her with his tongue.
- Helped Dylan trap the entity in a furnace and destroy him for good, thus preventing him terrorizing humanity
- Since new nightmare takes place in the real world and has no connection to the previous six films, she doesn’t have to be compared to those films protagonists. With that being said, she definitely passes the standard by helping her son Dylan destroy the entity and fulfill her role as Nancy within Wes Craven’s script for the seventh nightmare film, thus preventing it from reaching our reality and slaughtering humanity.
- While she did read Hansel and Gretel to Dylan, she was reluctant to do so as Dylan really wanted her to read the story as he really like it, despite her warning him that it would possibly give him nightmares.
- While she does say “screw your pass” to a nurse while running to see Dylan at the hospital, it was more of a heating up moment as the entity had previously attacked her in her own home and later told her in a nightmare that he was close to Dylan. Additionally, the entity had already been harassing her for weeks and tormenting both she and her son and killed her husband and two technicians who had worked on the nightmare films so this response was more her being stressed out and scared for her son’s life.
