"Henry Stein" is the main protagonist of the Bendy franchise.
He serves as the main protagonist of the 2017 horror game Bendy and the Ink Machine, the unseen final protagonist of its 2020 prequel Boris and the Dark Survival, and one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Nathan Arch) of its 2022 sequel Bendy and the Dark Revival, being an unseen protagonist in Chapters 1-3, a minor character in Chapter 4 and a pivotal protagonist in Chapter 5.
He is an ink recreation of a former animator and co-founder of Joey Drew Studios, created by the studio's titular owner to live out his revenge fantasies on the real man.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- While he's not a real human and a creation of Joey Drew, nothing implies he's made of good, especially as he was made to be tortured.
- While he does murder the dozens of ink creatures standing in his path, it's in self-defence and, as proven with Swollen Jack, he takes no joy in it.
- If he truly did write the secret messages as theorized by many fans, then even though he utterly hates Joey Drew for what he's done, this is still completely justified given what he's done.
- He's shown to be horrified at a dead Boris clone, thinking Joey had something to do with it, although in reality it was Twisted Alice. Even then, if he really did write the secret messages, then he's still disgusted by it and calls her heartless.
- After killing Swollen Jack, he apologizes for it and even compliments the ink creature for his hat. This becomes even more admirable if the theory that Henry was writing the secret messages was true, as despite thinking of Jack as a "psycho", he still didn't wish any harm.
- He quickly grew to care for Buddy Boris after meeting him and was very protective of him.
- While he does perform Twisted Alice's tasks for her, this is justified as he has no choice in doing so. If he did write the secret messages, then this is proven further when he asks himself why is he doing this.
- If he did write the secret messages, then he's horrified by what Alice has done to the dozens of Boris and Butcher Gang clones, asking if they deserved it. This is despite the fact that all of the Butcher Gang members he encounters are trying to kill him.
- When Alice kidnaps Boris, he tries his best to save him, and is horrified when he sees that he was turned into Brute Boris, and he killed him out of self-defence. If he truly did write the secret messages, then he also feels deep remorse for not being able to save him.
- If he's the author of the secret messages, then he felt pity for a crying Lost One and tried to comfort him.
- He doesn't have any hard feelings towards Allison Angel and Tom for leaving him for dead, and quickly forgives them after the latter saves him from Sammy Lawrence.
- He defeats the Ink Demon using the End Tape. What's worth to note is that Henry knows he lives in a time loop and that the demon will be revived afterwards, and thus he gains nothing from defeating him, and yet does so anyway because it's the right thing to do.
- He helps Audrey Drew defeat the Ink Demon for the final time by telling her about the End Tape and using the Projectionist's head so she could play it.
Trivia[]
- While Henry never had any corrupting qualities, it's not until Bendy and the Dark Revival that he became Pure Good, as only then was it confirmed that he knows the Cycle is an endless loop and still chooses to defeat the Ink Demon.
