Last time... we made the mistake of leaving each other when we needed each other the most. This time... we'll stay together
~ Hero making the promise not to separate from his friends again.

Hero (real name implied to be Henry) is one of the tritagonists of the 2020 psychological horror game OMORI.

He is the older brother of Kel and the oldest (alongside Mari) of the game's original friend group. He is shown to be a supportive older brother figure who is always kind to those he cares about. After Mari had seemingly taken her own life, he fell into a depressive state, but thanks to the help of Kel and the rest of his family, was able to recover, becoming a kindhearted, mentor-like figure in the present day.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • Lacks any real negative qualities and is shown to be kind and understanding to others.
  • He manages to pass the relatively low admirable standards of the game thanks to saving both Sunny and Basil from drowning as well as well as playing a major part in redeeming Aubrey.
  • While he was said to have lashed out at Kel and yelled at him to the point where the latter started crying, it is explicitly stated that he felt an incredibly amount of remorse for said act, not to mention this was the thing that lead to his change in behavior and path towards recovery, with him never being shown to repeat this sort of behavior in the present-day.
  • While he does banter with Kel on occasion, this is clearly in good fun and not in any way meant to hurt his feelings.
  • While he does have an intense fear of insects, this doesn't affect how he interacts with others, meaning that this isn't corrupting.

In the Main Game[]

  • Prior to the events of the game, he, Kel, Sunny, and Mari all went to comfort Aubrey who was crying on the side of the road due to a lost shoe. They would then allow her to become part of their friend group which would not only make Aubrey a lot happier, but would also lead to Basil joining the group as well, as she was the one who introduced him to everybody.
  • When he heard commotion coming from the old Hangout Spot and realized that Sunny and Basil were stuck at the bottom of the lake at risk of drowning, he immediately jumped in, saving the both of them from dying before taking Basil back to his home where he would be given medical care by both Hero himself as well as his caretaker Polly.
  • When Kim entered Sunny's house requesting to help Aubrey, Hero is quick to jump at the opportunity, and when Kel showed skepticism, Hero managed to convince him that for all her jerkish ways, she still cares about her old friends and that he doesn't want to give up on her, this would end up being the thing to convince Kel to give her another chance despite her previous actions.
  • He, alongside Kel and Sunny, confront Aubrey at her house in order to try and get her to come out. When Aubrey and Kel begin fighting, Hero sees that she had kept all of the old photos with Mari and convinces her to put them all back in Basil's photo album where it belongs.
  • Would ultimately play a key part in redeeming Aubrey by not only convincing Kel to give her another chance, but would then be the one to convince her to allow for the old photos of Mari to be put back in the photo album, leading her to remember all of the old memories she had with her friends and finally seeing the error of her ways and apologizing for her jerkish behavior.
  • Despite it being understandable, Hero apologizes to Mari beyond the grave for not visiting sooner. Kel also mentions that he feels a serious amount of guilt towards her supposed suicide, blaming himself for what happened despite it not being his fault at all.
  • When Aubrey begins to break down into tears from guilt of what she had done to Basil, he and Kel brought everyone into a group hug, comforting her and helping her forgive herself.
  • He, a long with Sunny, Kel, and Aubrey, would all stay over at Basil's house when he was shown having a hard time, making sure that he could be there for him when he is ready to come out.
  • In the bad ending of the game, when Basil ends up taking his own life while everyone is asleep, Hero, despite his own stage of grief, tried to encourage Sunny not to look at Basil's body, stating that he and the rest of his friends would be okay despite that clearly not being the case.
  • In the game's good ending, he, along with presumably Kel, Aubrey, and Polly, would find Sunny and Basil unconscious in Basil's room after the two had an intense fight and quickly call an ambulance for the both of them, sending them to the hospital.

Trivia[]

  • A Manga adaptation of OMORI is set to release in spring of 2024, it is unknown if Hero is going to be Pure Good in that version or not.
