Ivern, also known as The Green Father, is a heroic playable character in the multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends.
Originally a warrior known as Ivern the Cruel, he was the one who chopped the sacred God-Willow with his axe. After seeing the life flowing back from the God-Willow's felling, Ivern had an epiphany and begged for forgiveness. The God-Willow accepted Ivern's apologies, turning him into a human-tree hybrid and giving him the ability to communicate with nature. Since then, Ivern has spent his days befriending the creatures of the wild and teaching humanity to embrace the beauty of the natural world.
He is the 133rd champion introduced to the game, released on October 5th, 2016. He is often played in the jungle.
He is voiced by David Lodge.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- Ivern's pacifistic nature is exemplified in his in-game gameplay, being unable to attack jungle camps and instead plant groves to set them free, being able to interact with the jungle without killing.
- While in the past he was a barbarian warrior known as Ivern the Cruel who chopped down the World-Tree for conquest, he immediately felt remorse upon seeing the beauty of life. Upon becoming the World-Tree, he had a newfound appreciation for all life and became the complete opposite of his mortal self.
- He cherishes all natural life and takes care of all animals and plants on Runeterra.
- He rescued an injured golem and named her Daisy, who would later be his loyal companion.
- Unlike most heroic champions whom are either xenophobic or lethal, Ivern does not discriminate and respects everyone no matter where they come from.
- He is always optimistic and peaceful, and never shows any anger or hatred no matter what.
- Despite fearing hunters and poachers, Ivern does not hate humanity nor encourage his natural friends to do the same since he understands as he was once human himself and wants to teach them to appreciate nature.
- When Ivern does harm others, he does so to defend innocent creatures and prefers to incapacitate the culprits, before letting them go once they've learned their lesson.
- In his color story "Gift of Venom" he met a poacher named Risbell. Even though he hates poachers most, he saved her life and even reformed her.
- Despite mourning after Risbell killed the shagyak, Ivern tried to peacefully negotiate with her and told Daisy to be gentle when restraining her.
- When Risbell tried to kill a baby snake out of self-defense after it bit her, Ivern stopped her and let the snake apologize. Then he offered her a mushroom to cure the venom.
- He forgave Risbell despite taking a life, once he naturalized the slain shagyak into a shelter for badgers. Ivern told her that nothing was wasted and she lived because of its sacrifice.
- Risbell's experience reminded her of her grandmother telling her about the myths about Ivern when she was young, so she apologized to him and he accepted her apology and patted her on the head, moving her to tears.
- Afterwards, Risbell buried the shagyak's tusks and abandoned her greed, with Ivern watching in approval, claiming that the shagyak's family will be proud.
