Jackson "Jack" Darby is one of the main human protagonists of the animated series Transformers: Prime.
He was voiced by Josh Keaton, who also voiced Spider-Man in the Spectaular Spider man, Shiro in Voltron and a young Hercules in the Disney Adaptation.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- While he was initially a pessimist and a jerk during his first debut, Jack later managed to subvert all of them throughout the Prime series after spending more time with his friends and the Autobots.
- During Arcee and Bee's fight with the Vehicons he tries to keep Raf safe and later takes him to safety by leaving through a pipe. The next day he tries to tell him they should keep what they see secret before Bee and Arcee come looking for them. though Jack was hesitant at first, he eventually agreed to come with.
- He agreed to keep the Autobots as a secret from everyone else, including his mother which would end up getting him in trouble several times
- Later when Bulkhead left to rescue Fowler from the Decepticons, he noticed Miko went with and went after her to get her back safely. Once there he argued with her over her reckless choices and upon noticing their argument was upsetting Raf, he tried to comfort him
- He later saved Raf from being killed by a Vehicon and got Miko to take a picture of some data on the Decepticon computer which seemed important.
- He was eventually persuaded by Arcee to come back, but the Autobots soon had to bridge out to stop Megatron from bridging a Terrorcon army to Earth, during this Jack told Ratchet he should bridge them to the Giant Sized Array that the Decepticons were using for power, so that Raf could diable it. While there, he tried to fight against Soundwave. He then decided to stay with the Autobots and expressed interest in helping them in their missions
- In "Scarpheap", when the base is invaded by Scraplets Jack protected Ratchet while he worked on the Groundbridge to get Optimus and Arcee back from the artic, and used a fire extinguisher to get rid of several of them, he and the other kids later fixed an Energon fuel line which fixed the groundbridge, got the Scraplets out and saved Optimus and Arcee from freezing to death in the Artic
- In "Convoy", when the Autobots were escorting the D.I.N.G.U.S with Agent Fowler and being attacked by M.E.C.H, Jack and Miko groundbridged into to try to defend it from M.E.C.H goons despite being severely outnumbered, ultimately retreating when Optimus ordered them to.
- In "Deux ex Machina", Jack goes with the others to retrieve the Energon Harvester from a museum (though Jack was reluctant knowing this was theft), though they lost it to Soundwave.
- In "Speed Metal" he took Bee to a race with Vince when Arcee refused to go and ended up running into Knock Out who had kidnapped Vince, Jack then went to save him in spite of how horrible Vince was to him. Afterward he made up a story for Vince to cover up the Autobots and Decepticons' existence.
- Even though he did engage in illegal races because he wanted to be better than Vince, he had no idea Knock Out would be there and after realized his mistakes and worked to save Vince, promising to Arcee he'll never do such a thing again. He even advises Smokescreen against racing later, proving he's subverted this trait
- In "Predatory", when Arcee encounters Airachnid's ship, she constantly tries to get Jack to leave, though he insists on helping her and taking on Airachnid together. When Arcee was captured, he tried to free her before being chased by Airachnid into her ship where he used his pocket knife to start a fire with the Energon fuel and blow up Airachnid's ship, nearly killing her.
- In "Shadowzone" he tried to stop Miko from stowing away into another Autobot mission and was subsequently dragged into it and stuck in the Shadowzone with a zombified Skyquake, while there he tried to think of ways to leave while keeping the other 2 teens safe and used Starscream's severed arm to blast Skyquake though it only succeded in breaking his arm off. After being saved by Ratchet, he tried to take responsibilty before Miko confessed.
- In "Crisscross", he agrees to his mother's deal of not using his motorcycle, going to near impossible methods to allow Arcee to go on missions and keep his mother pleased while at the same time trying to keep the Transformers' existence a secret. Later when his mother is kidnapped by Airachnid and Silas, he and Arcee go to save her, and he agrees to Airachnid's deal, going throughout the entire area till he found her, and freed her while Arcee and Airachnid fought. He later took his mom to the Autobot base and explained everything
- In "Rock Bottom", when he and several others get stuck in a cave-in, he finds and activates an old Decepticon mining drill which he uses to search for his allies. While looking, he stumbles upon Megatron who is completely buried by rocks and is unable to move, who prompted him to end his life; though Jack refused and spared the warlord knowing it's not what Optimus would have wanted. He used the drill to save Arcee, Bulkhead, and Miko, while also leaving Starscream stuck beneath.
- In "One Shall Fall" he called his mother, who's a nurse, to see Raf who had been critically injured during a mission. In "One Shall Rise", he convinces his mom to let him and others stay at the Base safe from the Dark Energon, and was later given the Key to Vector Sigma, showing just how much Optimus trusted him.
- In "Orion Pax", it's established that Vector Sigma is the only way to restore Optimus' memories with Jack being fully willing to do the journey to Cybertron. He proposed the idea of using the Decepticon's own space bridge to get him to Cybertron. He uses an astronaut costume and goes with Arcee to reactivate Vector Sigma in the Decepticon Stronghold and give Orion his memories as Optimus back.
- While Arcee fought an Insecticon, Jack reactivated Vector Sigma by himself and downloaded the information, while also keeping scraplets from interrupting the process, which he later tricked into attacking the Insecticon, he later returned to Earth and restored Optimus' memories, allowing him to defeat Megatron and return to the Autobots.
- In "Flying Mind", he snuck onto the now sentient Nemesis with Fowler to retrieve the Iacon Database for the Autobots, and protected the other kids after Fowler was knocked unconsicous.
- In "Tunnel Vision", he and Miko go to Manhattan with Bee and Arcee to retrieve an Iacon relic, while there he meets Vogel and trusts him with the secret of the Autobots, convincing him to help them using the train to run Knock Out over.
- In "New Recruit", he gives Smokescreen a tour of the Autobot Base and later helps him pick a vehicle form, later in "Legacy", he's shown to still be helping him personally by teaching him about humanity and how to be a robot in disguise.
- In "Darkest Hour", when he was kidnapped by Megatron and used as leverage for the Autobots to give him the Omega Keys, Jack was fully willing to die for the Autobots and the future of all of Cybertron, stating that the Autobots would do the same for Earth, even telling Megatron himself.
- In "Scattered" he and Arcee search for the others while trying to be undetected by Decepticons, before being picked up by Ultra Magnus.
- In "Rebellion", he's once again essential to the Autobots victory, as he and Miko were groundbridged to random locations on Earth and used their phones knowing the Decepticons would detect them and search for them, Jack later also went to an Energon Mine and pretended to be a Decepticon in need of assistance, this left the Darkmount Fortress without much defense and allowed the Autobots to strike head in.
- In "Plus One", he tried to keep his mother from going on a mission and later groundbridged to check on her, finding her damaged phone and alerting Arcee, allowing her to save both June and Fowler from Knock Out
- In "Deadlock", Jack joins in on the final battle, creating a plan involving him and Miko using the Apex Armor, he groundbridged them to the Nemesis' bridge to deal with Soundwave and then had Raf create another portal, trapping Soundwave in the Shadow Zone and giving the Autobots a mayor advantage.
- He later tried to fly the Nemesis before the Autobots took it over. Afterwards he is hired by Fowler to be an agent of Unit: E and bids farewell to the Autobots as they return to Cybertron.
- Years later, Jack would serve as a source of inspiration for Bumblebee, who used his strategies with the Shadow Zone to get himself out when Soundwave left him stuck there.
