Jake Sully is the main protagonist of the Avatar franchise, serving as the main protagonist of Avatar and one of the two main protagonists of Avatar: The Way of Water.
He is played by Sam Worthington.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
Avatar[]
- While he was initially working with the RDA, he betrayed them once he realized how important the land was to the Na'vi and that they wouldn’t hesitate to kill Na'vi. He joined the Na'vi and helped them fight back against the humans, thus betraying his own race
- Destroying a camera on a bulldozer to stop it from destroying the land.
- He knew how dangerous the RDA was, so he begged the Na'vi to leave them home tree in fear for their lives.
- He is very sorry for Neytiri when her father is killed.
- Tried to save Grace Augustine’s life by connecting her to the tree of souls.
- He breaks in and throws a grenade into the engine of the Valkyrie, which manages to stop it from blowing up the tree of souls.
- When Miles Quaritch attempts to kill Neytiri, Jake just saved her life by distracting Miles Quaritch and challenging him.
- He has the RDA sent back to the Earth.
- Despite being depicted as killing RDA soldiers, it is evident that his actions are solely motivated by a sense of duty to defend Pandora from the RDA.
- Moreover, he is primarily a pacifist, as he does not derive pleasure from the act of killing.
- He decides to stay on Pandora forever and permanently transfer into his Avatar body.
Avatar: The Way of Water[]
- He didn’t want Lo’ak and Neteyam to fight in the battle to protect them.
- When the RDA returned, he took them all somewhere far away to keep them safe from war.
- When the RDA found him at the Metkayina clan, and they are in danger, he begins to feel like it was his fault for putting them in danger by coming there in the first place.
- He drops his weapon when Quaritch holds a knife up against Kiri’s throat to stop him from killing her.
- He is defending Spider from Neytiri's rage by get her knife before she can kill Spider.
- He almost killed Miles Quaritch by strangling him to near death underwater, and Quaritch likely wouldn’t have survived if Spider hadn’t saved him. Though this is violently vengeful, Quaritch was asking for it by making death threats to him and his family.
- He felt guilty for putting the Metkayina clan in danger, so he was willing to leave, although Tonowari didn’t make him leave and welcomed them to stay.
- He makes the decision that fleeing from war is no longer an option; he must confront the RDA head-on, culminating in a connection with spirit trees to gain insight into Neyteyam's soul.
- Although he was rather strict and a bit harsh towards his children (especially Lo'ak), it's only because he worries about them.
- At the end of the film, he accepts Spider as his own son.
