Pure Good Wiki

Look Dad, I... I'm sorry, but I just don't want to be in your gang. I want to be a singer.
~ Johnny admitting his true passion to his father.

Johnny is one of the main protagonists of Illumination's Sing franchise.

What Makes him Pure Good?[]

  • Despite his father raising him to be a career criminal, Johnny had no interest in a life of crime and decided to be a singer.
  • He wasn't jealous when a giraffe was chosen over him, but later agreed to come back when Buster Moon gave him a second chance due to finding communication with the giraffe to be inconvenient.
  • Hearing his father say that it would take half an hour to get back, he decided to take some of that time to go to Buster Moon and then try to go quickly to get him, showing he cares for all his acquaintances.
  • After his father was arrested, Johnny came to visit him and told him his dream so he would know why he left.
    • He still came to visit him a second time, but his father preferred not to speak to him, probably because of his selfish act of disowning him.
  • While he did try to steal the prize money to free his father, he changed his mind after seeing that Moon sees him as a natural born singer and decides to win the money fair and square.
  • When Moon Theater got flooded and Meena got stuck in the front door, Johnny pushed her out, thus draining the theater and saving everyone inside from drowning.
  • Even after finding out that Buster Moon lied (although it was unintentional), Johnny still continued to be friendly with him, as he still decided to play the piano for him without receiving a reward.
  • He even tried to tell Buster Moon that he wasn't the only one to lose something.
  • His talent made his father redeem himself and temporarily break out of prison to reconcile with him. He showed no grudge against his father when he briefly disowns him. When his father apologizes to him and gives him a heartwarming hug, Johnny returns the embrace, which shows that he forgives his father.
    • He also promised to visit him in prison.
  • Seeing how good Nooshy was at dancing, he friendlily asked her to teach him how to dance.
  • It was Johnny who gave Buster Moon the idea of putting on a show behind Jimmy Crystal.
  • As they fled, Johnny grabbed Miss Crawly as she was falling behind (the only member of the group to save another member in this scene).
  • He called on his father (who was released between the events of the two films) and his gang to protect Buster Moon once Crystal arrived.
  • During the show, he faced Klaus Kickenklober and earned his respect by defeating him during his musical number.

Trivia[]

  • Johnny is so far the only Sing hero to be Pure Good.
