What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

- He tells a woman whose son is about to have a serious operation that he's going to be okay.
- He discovers that the mother of his neurologist, Sam Weizak, who he thought died in World War II, is still alive and tells him this.
- He's understanding when he learns his ex-girlfriend Sarah has moved on from him and has a baby with another man.
- In the movie, upon making physical contact with a tabloid reporter, he calls out the reporter, who supposedly drove his sister to suicide.
- He refuses to use his powers for personal gain or for dishonest reasons and just wants to go back to teaching.
- He uses his powers to expose senior police deputy Frank Dodd as a notorious serial killer who had raped and murdered numerous women and young girls.
- In the book, he warns his tutoring employer Roger Chatsworth about a deadly fire that will erupt at a restaurant where a high school graduation party is being held. Despite believing the fire won't happen, Chatsworth humors him and holds an alternate party at his home, making Johnny save numerous students' lives, including Chatsworth's son Chuck, while the students who accept the original invention at the restaurant and the manager die horribly.
- In the movie he warns his employer Roger Stuart that his son Chris and two of his friends will drown after falling through thin ice during hockey practice, and though Stuart fires him, he reads Chris' hand and foresees that he will be alright and parts with the boy on good terms. After reading a newspaper article and discovering that Chris' two friends drowned while eight other boys fell through the ice and were hospitalized for hypothermia, leaving Chris' father traumatized and in serious legal trouble with the ten boys' families all because he didn't want the hockey equipment and the money he paid for it to go to waste and to prove him wrong, Johnny, realizing that Stuart lied to him about calling the practice off, calls the house to see if Chris is alive, and is relieved upon hearing his voice, showing that Chris believed him and stayed home, even when his father tried insisting he join the practice through bullying.
- Also, when Johnny breaks a glass vase of Stuart's and shouts that the ice will break, it's only to get him to hear him and understand the severity of the situation. He also agrees to leave peacefully and apologizes for destroying the vase.
- He's reluctant to kill Greg Stillson, even after getting a vision of him causing a nuclear apocalypse and causing mass genocide as he doesn't want to take any life and tries to find other ways of stopping him, only deciding to kill him upon being convinced he has no choice.
- In the book, Johnny discovers that he's terminally ill, so there would be no way he could gather enough evidence against Stillson.
- In the movie, he talks to Dr. Weizak about what almost happened with Chris, while asking if he could go back in time and kill Adolf Hitler before he came into power, knowing beforehand the atrocities he committed. Dr. Weizak replies that he would have no choice but to kill Hitler, even if it meant his own death in the process.
- He sacrifices his life to stop Stillson, as even though his assassination attempt fails, Stillson uses a child (in the movie, Sarah's baby) as a human shield, which a photographer manages to get pictures of, exposing his true colors to the world when they cover newspapers and magazines, and ensuring he will never be President, driving him to suicide in the movie, and Johnny calmly informs Stillson of this before dying peacefully.
