King Rauru (mostly known as Rauru) is the overarching protagonist of the "Era of the Wilds" saga within The Legend of Zelda franchise, serving as the tritagonist of the 2023 action-adventure video game The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
He is the member of the Zonai Tribe as well as the founder of Hyrule in the distant past alongside his Hylian wife, Sonia and the younger brother of Mineru. After Link's arm was rendered unusable as a result of his prolonged exposure to Ganondorf's Gloom, he grants his right arm to him that he can use.
In the original Japanese production, he is voiced by Riki Kagami. In the English dub of the game, he is voiced by Chris Hackney.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- King Rauru shares his wisdom and technology with the world alongside Mineru with the people living on the Surface. He met Sonia and they fall in love and eventually got married, and they founded the kingdom of Hyrule as king and queen. Even when he was once immortal, he refused to be worshiped as a god.
- Even when he and Ganondorf's army often conflict with each other, Rauru was shown to be a pacifist and made multiple attempts to make peace with the Gerudo, even though Ganondorf clearly had no desire to.
- He and Sonia find an unconscious Zelda, who came from the distant future, and took her under her care, during which they proved to be loving parental figures to her, contrasting Zelda's complicated relationship with her biological father and loss of her biological mother. Not only that, but they also help Zelda hone her magic to help return to her own time, and took her to his sister, Mineru, who teaches her the Recall ability and counsel her on her insecurities, worries and feelings for Link, whom he wanted to meet.
- When Ganondorf launched an attack against the kingdom with Molduga, he, Sonia and Zelda use the power of their Secret Stones to eliminate all of them.
- While he did accept Ganondorf's allegiance to him, he was hoping to keep an eye on him so he could expose him if he showed any sign of treachery, and even though he bore the guilt of Sonia's death later on as a result of his foolish decision, this is only because he underestimated how intelligent and manipulative Ganondorf truly was and bore great guilt for his mistake.
- He assembled the Sages of different races and they set off to fight Ganondorf, who became the Demon King, and even when the latter proved to be too powerful for them, King Rauru takes advantage of the distraction and seals Ganondorf with his arm at the cost of his own life, which kept Hyrule in the clear for millennia.
- After Ganondorf breaks out and Zelda vanishes with the Secret Stone she retrieved, he rescued Link from falling to his doom and lends him his arm in place of his damaged original one and has him go to the four Shrines to gain new abilities with the new arm, which would prove essential for his adventure to save the four regions and the entire kingdom from Ganondorf's reign of terror.
- After Ganondorf was ultimately destroyed, King Rauru, alongside Sonia and Link, used the last of their power to restore the Light Dragon, who was Princess Zelda the entire time, back to her human form, which also restores Link's arm to normal before they leave the mortal world.
