“ | Did I startle you? I suppose that is only natural. As wide as the world is, I am the only boat upon it who can speak the words of men. | „ |
~ King of Red Lions greeting Link. |
“ | He who touches it will have whatever he desires granted... That is what you said, is it not, Ganondorf? Gods of the Triforce! Hear that which I desire! Hope! I desire hope for these children! Give them a future! Wash away this ancient land of Hyrule! Let a ray of hope shine on the future of the world!!! And let our destinies finally be fulfilled… Ganondorf! May you drown with Hyrule!!! | „ |
~ King Daphnes wishing on the Triforce. |
King Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule (also known as the King of Red Lions in his boat form) is the deuteragonist of the 2002 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the tenth main installment in Nintendo‘s The Legend of Zelda series.
He is the former King of Hyrule who was sealed beneath the sea after the gods flooded Hyrule. Upon Ganondorf's return, however, the king is awoken and takes the form of a talking boat to guide Link across the Great Sea and train him become a worthy successor to the Hero of Time.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- He benevolently ruled over Hyrule until Ganondorf's invasion.
- When Hyrule was flooded, he took the form of a boat, and guided Link to Windfall Island after he was thrown away by the Helmaroc King.
- When Link gets to Dragon Roost Island, he grants him the Wind Waker.
- While he does have some arrogant moments, like startling Link and chuckling about it, these moments are very brief and do nothing to detract from his heroism.
- He guides Link to obtain the Three Sacred Pearls, and takes him to Hyrule to recover the Master Sword.
- While this did result in Ganondorf's power being fully unlocked, this was entirely unintentional.
- After Link gets the Master Sword, he allows him to go back to the Forsaken Fortress.
- After learning that the Master Sword was powerless, he takes Link and Tetra to Hyrule Castle and helps the latter discover her true identity as Princess Zelda.
- He genuinely cares about Link and asks him if he is all right after being thrown out to sea by Cyclos.
- He helps Link obtain the lost Triforce Shards.
- In Ganon's Tower, he stops Ganondorf from taking over Hyrule and wishes for the Kingdom to be washed clean so Link and Tetra can have a future.
- It's also worth noting that by doing this, he indirectly stopped Bellum from taking over the World of the Ocean King as Link and Tetra wouldn't have left Hyrule otherwise.
- After Ganondorf's death, he sympathizes with the Gerudo and chooses to stay with his kingdom and die with it out of honor.
