There's something scary going on in my town. If Morioh City is in danger, that means my parents, my sister, and everyone else important to me will have to face that danger. So even if it's scary, I gotta do something!
~ Koichi deciding to use his Stand to protect people in Morioh

Koichi Hirose is a major character in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise.

He is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Okuyasu Nijimura) in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, a minor protagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, and a recurring cameo protagonist in the Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe series .

He is a high school student and close friend of Josuke Higashikata, but during a confrontation, he awakens a Stand, and decides to use his power to help Josuke and the town against enemy Stand users.

He is voiced by Yuki Kaji in Japanese, and Zach Aguilar in English, who also voiced Tanjiro Kamado. In the 2017 live action adaption for Diamond is Unbreakable, he was portrayed by Ryunosuke Kamiki.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • Upon accidentally running over a "kitten", he feels immense guilt and attempts to help the kitten, despite it being a trick by Tamami to activate his Stand.
  • He saves the lives of his sister and his mother from Tamami's Stand ability.
  • After defeating Tamami, Koichi chooses to spare his life and redeem him.
  • While Yukako Yamagishi was attempting to kill him during their fight, he made a plan to use his Stand to prevent Yukako from falling to her death, prioritizing her safety and saving her even after everything she did to him. His mercy not only causes her to feel remorseful as she is brought back to reality, but it is what inspired her to become a better person, as she grew to genuinely respect his privacy and feelings. (With her claiming that he saved her from herself in the English dub)
    • During their fight, he refused to call the police on Yukako because he was worried that the officers would have been murdered by her Stand known as Love Deluxe.
  • During the fight with Akira Otoishi, Koichi showed genuine concern and sympathy for Okuyasu when he had his hand cut off and was brought back from near death by Josuke as he cried. And he got angry at the others for barely being concerned.
  • Despite having been enemies, forms a friendship with Hazamada over their shared love of manga, forgiving him for his previous crimes against him, Josuke and Jotaro.
  • During his second encounter with Rohan Kishibe, he forgives him for his previous actions of kidnapping, and the two of them tell the others of the serial killer that Reimi Sugimoto told them about in the Ghost Alley.
  • Forgives Yukako for her previous actions and attempted murder of him. Although he was reasonably wary of her when they first met after their fight, he eventually warms up to her after seeing that she is no longer obsessive or forceful. (Despite Aya Tsuji's Stand, Cinderella, coming into place and influencing the both of them, this was all Koichi's own actions)
  • When being offered by Yukako to pick her face from the Cinderella Stand, asks to be blinded if he chooses incorrectly in order to spare Yukako the internal pain of not having Koichi see her the way she was before, though he also probably did this since he knew Aya wouldn't want to hurt him. This would make Aya unwilling to play as an antagonist as she would give Yukako her face back, looking onto the two of them with a smile upon seeing Koichi's kindness and nobility.
  • Assists Jotaro in tracking down the serial killer, Yoshikage Kira, and when Jotaro is severely wounded by his stand, Sheer Heart Attack, singlehandedly holds off both the stand and Yoshikage Kira, buying enough time for Jotaro to regain consciousness and for Josuke and Okuyasu to arrive on the scene.
  • Despite not knowing her for a long time, Koichi was very distraught and angered when Aya died in front of his eyes, as he was unable to save her.
  • When Josuke was being pursued by Yuya Fungami's stand known as Highway Star, Koichi assists Josuke by revealing Yuya's location, which was in a hospital.
  • He saves Yuya from being shredded alive by Teronsuke Miyamoto's stand known as Enigma.
    • Even though he refused to forgive Teronsuke since he let Josuke put him in a fate worse than death by transforming him into a book, he deserved it.
  • Saves Rohan from being killed by the Stand Cheap Trick.
  • Assists Josuke, Jotaro and the others in tracking down Yoshikage Kira.
  • When Yoshikage Kira was about to activate Bite the Dust to revert time, he used 3 Freeze on Kira long enough for Jotaro to defeat him, putting an end to Kira's murder spree, avenging all of the people killed by him.
  • While he used to be reckless and incompetent, he eventually shredded these qualities and become more reliable, which Jotaro praised when he helped defeat Yoshikage Kira.
  • Once Kira was sent off to his eternal damnation, Koichi would join the others in bidding Reimi and Arnold farewell as they ascend to Heaven.
  • After Giorno tricked him and stole his luggage, Koichi was merciful with him when forced to fight him, something that Giorno himself noted.
  • Assists Giorno in stopping Polpo's Stand, Black Sabbath, in spite of Giorno stealing his passport and luggage.
  • After hearing about Giorno's dream and seeing his honorable nature, chooses to honor Giorno's request not to call his allies to assist him and leaves Giorno in peace.

Trivia[]

  • The appearance of Echoes Acts 1-2 were inspired by the appearance and design of a Pure Evil villain from the Dragon Ball franchise known as Cell.
