The power of the words you believed became everyone's hope, right? It became my hope. Have confidence in yourself. Isn't that little bit of optimism what's great about you? Hope is infectious. If your power isn't enough, we're here for you. Everyone is behind you.
~ Kyoko to Makoto Naegi.

Kyoko Kirigiri is one of the main characters from the DanganRonpa series. She is the Ultimate Detective and the daughter of Jin Krigiri.

She is voiced by Yoko Hikasa in the Japanese version of the game. In the English version, she was voiced by Erika Harlacher, who also voiced Kaede Akamatsu.

What Makes Her Pure Good?[]

  • She is shown to be helpful during the trials, though she has a pragmatic reason for it.
  • When Mondo Owada threatened Monokuma in the gymnasium, Kyoko was the only one who realized that the robotic, plush teddy bear was about to explode and told him to throw it. Mondo promptly agreed to Kyoko's suggestion and threw Monokuma, who self-destructed mere moments after. Kyoko had effectively saved Mondo's life.
  • During the class trial, Kyoko is the only student who defends Makoto despite all initial evidence of the crime pointing to him. With her assistance, Makoto was successfully able to prove his own innocence, which lead to the survival of everyone apart from the blackened.
  • When Makoto attempted to lunge at Monokuma for driving Sayaka and Leon to commit their crimes, Kyoko, not wanting Makoto to meet a similar fate as Mukuro, stopped him and said that if he wanted to make Sayaka's enemies pay for what they've done, then he should hold off for now.
  • When the trial had concluded, Kyoko talked to Makoto and tried to reassure him that even though it is an undeniable fact that Sayaka had betrayed him, it was still possible that her final moments were spent thinking of him due to her leaving her dying message. Makoto said that it's impossible to know for sure and that she may have just been trying to get back at Leon for murdering her, but Kyoko believed that deep down, she was uncertain about committing a crime and betraying her friend, calling it ironic.
  • When Makoto was on his bed having a fever, she noticed that the mastermind was standing over him with a knife, so she jumped in to defend him and made sure to keep him safe before Makoto passed out again.
  • Even though she tried to pin the blame on Makoto in the fifth trial, she was revealed for the first time being frustrated and saddened for letting Makoto down (implying that she felt remorse for blaming Makoto for killing Mukuro Ikusaba).
  • Instead of leaving Makoto alone in the garbage dump to die, she rescues him by hiding in garbage bags and using the master key to escape.
  • When both Makoto and Kyoko get inside of the school, Kyoko tells Monokuma to reopen the trial for not playing fair to the rules, saving Makoto from possibly getting executed again.
  • When Kyoko sees a pic of her and her father, she got upset and questions herself if her father really was the bad person she thought he was.
  • She supported Makoto's idea to save the Remnants of Despair by placing them in the Neo World Program to undo Junko's influence on them.
  • Kyoko, Makoto and Byakuya arrived in the Neo World Program to save the remaining students (as well as potentially the rest of the world from AI Junko) by activating the Forced Shutdown.
  • She scolded Juzo Sakakura for beating up Makoto before the latter's trial and was able to escort Makoto out of it temporarily to have his wounds treated.
  • She gave Makoto her fullest support during the Final Killing Game.
  • She chose Makoto’s life over her own by violating her forbidden action (which was letting Makoto live beyond the fourth time limit), which would have killed her if not for the medicine she took beforehand which delayed the poison, and even then, she would have been comatose and eventually died if not for Mikan reviving her.
  • Even once she's supposedly dead, everyone still survived due to her notebook that implies the victims committed suicide by watching the monitor.

Trivia[]

  • She is the only Seriously Good Pure Good hero in the Danganronpa franchise.
