“ | Keep moving forward. | „ |
~ Lewis’s most famous quote. |
“ | I am never going to invent you. | „ |
~ Lewis to DOR-15, causing the latter to cease from existence. |
Lewis, later known as Cornelius Robinson, is the main protagonist of Disney's 47th full-length feature film Meet the Robinsons and the overarching protagonist of the video game adaptation of the same name. He is the future husband of Franny and biological father of Wilbur.
He was voiced by both Daniel Hansen and Jordan Fry, with his adult version being voiced by Tom Selleck.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- During his interview with the Harringtons at the beginning of the movie, he shares a bunch of ideas he has to a couple that shows interest in adopting him concerning the inventions he aspires to create that he thinks can improve various aspects of life and make the world a better place.
- He saves Wilbur from being eaten by Tiny the T-Rex when Bowler Hat Guy takes control of and uses him to attack the Robinsons and kidnap Lewis.
- After Bowler Hat Guy reveals that he’s really his roommate, Mike “Goob” Yagoobian, as an adult, and wishes to ruin his life out of revenge for keeping him up all night building his Memory Scanner, which caused him to fall asleep during a baseball game and miss an important catch, which he blames for his life going on to be ruined, while Lewis rightfully points out that he caused most of his own misery himself by fixating on the incident and never moving on, he still felt sorry for him and sympathized with his emotional pain because of his own struggles to cope and move past his failed attempts at inventing successful inventions and finding a family.
- After Doris/DOR-15 betrays Goob sometime after he passed off Lewis’ fixed Memory Scanner as his own and gets mass-produced, which leads to her disposing of him, enslaving humanity with her duplicates, rewriting the future into a dark, dystopian one and erasing Wilbur from existence, Lewis manages to fix the Robinson’s time machine and, realizing she’s his future invention, uses it go back in time to warn Goob of her betrayal, When Doris tries to kill him, Lewis courageously declares that "I am never going to invent you", which causes her to cease from existence. This restores the future back to its utopian state and brings Wilbur back into existence.
- He stops Wilbur from attacking Goob, tells him he’s really not a bad guy and tries to convince him to get the Robinsons to adopt him as a way of making things up to him.
- Although he yanks on Wilbur’s ear, his son was being kind of rude with the not showering comment.
- When Goob decides to presumably reject the offer, he feels bad for it but understands and respects his decision.
- When Wilbur takes him back to when his mom first dropped him off at the orphanage to honor his promise to him, he decides to pass up the chance to speak to and reconnect with her since he is now satisfied knowing he will have a family in the future and things will work out for him if he doesn’t let himself get discouraged by his shortcomings. Plus, he probably acknowledged that if he spoke to her, there was a possibility it would alter the future so that he wouldn’t meet his future wife and Wilbur wouldn’t exist.
- After arriving back in his own time to go back to the science fair with his fixed Memory Scanner and set everything right, upon returning to the past, Lewis returns to the Science Fair, but then remembers what will happen to Goob if he didn't wake up and heads to the baseball field where present Goob is sleeping. Lewis yells at him, waking him up in time and causing Goob to catch the ball, winning the game and preventing the events that led to his transformation into the Bowler Hat Guy. This leads him to become a much happier and well-adjusted kid, with Goob being seen carrying around his trophy, getting adopted by the Hendersons, a couple that had previously interviewed Lewis, and having an amicable goodbye with Lewis when he leaves the orphanage.
- He is strongly implied to be chiefly responsible for the utopian state of the future in the first place since it’s revealed that as an adult, he was the one who popularized the phrase “keep moving forward”, and most of the advanced technology in the future that have both improved society and the quality of life for many people are his inventions.
