Li'l Petey is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside his genetic template and father Petey the Cat) of DreamWorks' 48th full-length animated feature film Dog Man, based off of Dav Pilkey's book series of the same name.
He is the optimistic younger clone and son of former world's evilest cat Petey, who starts on a quest to redemption because of him. He is also the adoptive son of the titular hybrid, as well as the grandson of "Grampa" TheCat and Grace.
He is voiced by Lucas Hopkins Calderon.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Unlike his book counterpart, who is lethal and extremely jerkish, the film counterpart lacks all of those corrupting qualities. While he does occasionally annoy Petey by asking him questions, he's just curious and never goes too far.
- He sees the good in everybody, even in bad people like Petey, Flippy, and Grampa. While this would make him naive, he matured by the end of the film by accepting that some people just don't change.
- Despite being a newborn kitten, he was created with a functioning moral agency.
Dog Man[]
- Albeit unintentionally, he does stop Petey from bringing Flippy back to life.
- When Dog Man adopted him, they brought joy into each other's lives.
- Despite Petey abandoning him, Li'l Petey forgave his father and continued to change his negative view in life.
- He tries to have Petey and his father reconcile and work out their differences. Although the reunion was unsuccessful, Li'l Petey only did it with good intentions and quickly apologized to Petey.
- After learning that both Dog Man and Petey were in trouble, Li'l Petey immediately rushes in and tries to help them.
- By piloting 80-HD, Li'l Petey defeats all of the Beasty Buildings (except for one) singlehandedly, stopping their destructive city rampage and plans to destroy all do-gooders.
- He attempts to sacrifice his life when Flippy was coming to destroy the heroes.
- Even though Flippy seemed like an irredemable monster, Li'l Petey was optimistic that he could have a change in heart. He made a comic for Flippy and presents it right as the villain prepared to drop Petey into a volcano. The comic made him realize there was still caring people in the world, so he willingly accepted his arrest.
- While he shared his negative thoughts after Grampa took everything, it is a justifiable reaction since his comics were the only thing Grampa left behind. Fortunately, Petey's support lifted Li'l Petey out of his bad mood.
- When hearing that there was still one more Beasty Building undefeated, he immediately got himself ready to fight.
Trivia[]
- Li'l Petey is so far the only character created by Dav Pilkey to be Pure Good.
- Funnily enough, Flippy scanned him to be a "Supa Do-Gooder", the highest level on the scanner. Therefore, he is also canonically Pure Good.
