Lieutenant Frank Columbo is the titular main protagonist of the series with the same name. He is an LAPD police officer who solves cases that generally involve high society members with great intelligence.

He was portrayed by the late Peter Falk.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • He solves numerous highly elaborates crime committed by highly intelligent murderers.
  • In some cases, he saves innocent people who were framed by the culprit from imprisonment.
  • He easily stands out due of the low admirable standard of the series because the other protagonists are either too minor or too incompetent to stand out.
  • While he doesn't endorse their acts, he can sometimes sympathize with culprits who are truly affable people.
  • He often comforts the relatives of the victims and sometimes the relatives of the culprit.
  • He is always calm and polite and rarely loses his temper.
  • As a pacifist, he never uses violence against the culprits and he is disgusted by firearms.
  • Despite being highly intelligent, he is always humble and never shows any sign of arrogance.
  • Although he can be verbally harsh towards his pet dog, this is only when he is disobedient and it is shown that he truly cares about him.
  • Despite he allied himself with a mob boss, the latter treats Columbo with respect and didn't do reprehensible action in front of him.
  • At first he can not be taken seriously, but this is only a façade to fool the culprit and when he is really comedic (for example, when he uses a murder weapon to break the shell of an egg) it doesn't detract his serious moments.
  • In one instance, he arrested an innocent man to incite the culprit, his father who cared about his son to confess his crime. However, he immediately apologized for using this ploy.
