~ Fi calling upon Link in a dream |
Link, also known as the Hero of the Sky or the Goddess’s Chosen Hero, is the main protagonist of the 2011 action-adventure video game The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the sixteenth main installment in Nintendo‘s The Legend of Zelda series.
He is the earliest known chronological incarnation of Link in the Zelda timeline, who seeks to rescue his childhood friend Zelda from the wicked demon lord Ghirahim and learns that he is the chosen hero of the Goddess Hylia set to defeat an ancient evil.
His vocal effects were provided by Takashi Ōhara.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- While he seems quite lethal to Ghirahim, such as pulling out his sword on their first encounter and attempting to slice him in two when he was trying to prevent Impa and Zelda from escaping, it is quite understandable and justified given how Ghirahim is a Pure Evil threat who wants to sacrifice his childhood friend to revive a highly dangerous demon king who's also Pure Evil and intends to kill all who oppose him.
- Despite the fact that Groose was a somewhat cruel bully who mocked Link for being "shrimpy" and the fact that he and Zelda are childhood friends, as well as detaining his loftwing, Link showed no ill will towards him as he saved him from death using his Sailcloth, calmly and nicely told him of Zelda's whereabouts and well-being, and accepted his help in sealing the Imprisoned twice.
- While this incarnation of Link (like almost all of his other incarnations) can make negative remarks or choices (like firstly making Peatrice believe he loved her before breaking her heart), these choices are up to the player to decide, so they don't count as corrupting factors. Besides that, he is a generally friendly and respectful person in automatic cutscenes/dialogue.
Story Events[]
- Released his Crimson Loftwing when it was imprisoned by Groose.
- Attempted to save Zelda when she was sucked in by the tornado.
- Accepted the Goddess Sword and set on a journey to find Zelda, assuring Gaepora he will find her.
- Saved the traveling goron archeologist Gorko from being killed by Bokoblins.
- Helped the Kikwi Elder recover his missing Kikwis so he could not worry about them (even though it was partly to learn Zelda's whereabouts).
- Helped Gorko with his research.
- Defeated and got past Ghirahim to reunite with Zelda.
- Even though he was angered by Impa's words and Zelda abandoning him at the Earth Temple, he still was determined to find her.
- Released and saved an Ancient Robot who was imprisoned by Technoblins in the Lanayru Desert, who would end up upgrading his beetle.
- Attempted to stop Ghirahim from hurting Impa and Zelda at the Temple of Time, buying enough time for them to escape in a Gate of Time.
- Sealed the Imprisoned three times during his adventure, temporarily preventing it from breaking free and wreaking havoc.
- Gave Faron the Water Dragon sacred water to heal her wounds.
- Helped Skipper to locate his ship in the Lanayru Sand Sea.
- Killed LD-002S Scervo (he had no other choice because the pirate was fighting him on the plank) and freed the imprisoned crew on the Sandship.
- Defeated sea monster Tentalus, preventing it from destroying the ship and killing its crew.
- Refused to tell Ghirahim the location to the second Gate of Time at the Fire Sanctuary despite the demon lord making it a deal over his own life, showing that he would risk pain or death to protect Zelda; before defeating him a second time.
- Upgraded the Goddess Sword into the Master Sword via the sacred flames, giving it the power to repel evil and activate the second Gate of Time.
- Showed no resentment towards Zelda for supposedly using him to fulfill Hylia’s prophecy, only crying when she crystallized herself.
- Defeated Bilocyte, allowing Levias to return to normal.
- Found all the tadtones across Faron Woods, convincing Faron to give him her part of the Song of the Hero and also halt the flood.
- Travelled back in time to grow the Tree of Life and gave the fruit to the sickly dragon Lanayru, which healed him.
- Collected all three parts of the Song of the Hero and used them to access the Sky Keep, which contained the key for destroying Demise.
- Made a wish to destroy the Imprisoned, saving the world from any possible apocalypse.
- Attempted to save Zelda, Impa, and Groose from Ghirahim.
- Travelled back in time to rescue Zelda and stop Ghirahim from using her to resurrect Demise.
- Defeated Ghirahim's minions to get to Zelda in time. While he killed all of them, it was only to save Zelda and because they were trying to kill him.
- Defeated a revived Demise for good, saving the world from him.
- When Fi chooses to put herself in a slumber to keep Demise at bay, Link is sad that their friendship and companionship came to an end, indicating that he truly valued the time that they spent together.
- Presumably decides to stay with Zelda at the end.
Side Quests[]
- Found Wyrna's missing daughter, Kukiel.
- Collected 80 gratitude crystals for the friendly demon Batreaux, allowing him to become human.
- While he did pull out his sword when he saw him, it was only because the inhabitants called him a monster and he scared him. He does stop himself from going through with the kill.
- In the process, he helped many of the other inhabitants of the sky with their issues, such as
- Giving Fledge stamina potions to help make him stronger.
- Helping Orielle heal her bird’s injured wing.
- Cleaning Pipit's mother Mallara's house for her. While this would cause conflict between her and Pipit, it was still a kind thing to do.
- Helping Pipit and Karane get together. Although he does try to help Cawlin get together with her, at first he is given the option to actually go through with passing his love letter to her or give it to the ghostly hand named Phoeni who needs help. Regardless of his decision, Karane would still choose Pipit as her boyfriend.
