Link... You are the light—our light—that must shine upon Hyrule once again. Now, go...
~ Zelda calling upon Link in the Shrine of Resurrection at the beginning of Breath of the Wild.
Ganondorf: Thousands of years will pass in the blink of an eye. You only delay the inevitable.
Rauru: You're wrong. Years from now, someone will appear with the sword that seals the darkness. A swordsman with the power to defeat you—Link.
Remember...this name.
Ganondorf: Link... Interesting... I look forward...to meet...ing...him...
~ A dying Rauru warns Ganondorf that Link will rise to defeat him.

Link, also known as the Hero of the Wild, is the main protagonist of the "Era of the Wilds" saga within The Legend of Zelda franchise.

He is the latest known chronological incarnation of Link in The Legend of Zelda timeline, who serves as the appointed knight of Princess Zelda and one of the Champions of Hyrule determined to defeat Calamity Ganon.

However, in a decisive confrontation with a corrupted Guardian who was attacking him and the princess, Link refused to give up protecting Zelda and was badly wounded. He was sent to the Shrine of Resurrection where he slept for 100 years, when he awoke with amnesia. After freeing the Divine Beasts and recovering his memories, Link defeated Ganon, allowing Zelda to seal him away for good.

Several years later, he and Zelda were investigating a new phenomenon called Gloom underneath Hyrule Castle, where they would encounter a mysterious mummy who drew out all of the strength of him and separated him from Zelda. However, someone rescued him, and when Link awakened he would embark on a journey to find Zelda and uncover the mysteries of her disappearance.

His vocal effects were provided by Kengo Takanashi.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

In general[]

  • He's always willing to go out of his way to help anyone in need, even if there's nothing in it for him.
  • While he can be lethal in battle, he only ever uses lethal force when necessary to defend himself or others, or if facing particularly dangerous opponents.

Past[]

  • He went with Mipha to Ploymus Mountain to slay the Lynel that was terrorizing the Zora, even saving the latter's life from it.
  • He destroyed a malfunctioning Guardian that was a threat to several researchers and soldiers.
  • He helped Daruk learn to control Divine Beast Vah Rudania.
  • He saved Princess Zelda from an assassination attempt by the Yiga Clan.
  • He gave Zelda emotional support during the Great Calamity which claimed the lives of her father, the Champions, and many people.
  • Even when near death, Link would still try and defend Zelda when they were at the mercy of the corrupted Guardians. It was at this moment that the princess was finally able to awaken her power to shut down the Guardians.

Breath of the Wild[]

Story Events[]

  • He freed the four Champions' Divine Beasts as well as their spirits, including Revali even though he was cold and aloof towards him out of jealously and resentment.
  • He defeated Calamity Ganon.

Side Quests[]

  • He recovered Hestu's stolen maracas.
  • He helped Hudson build Tarrey Town.
  • He defeated the Yiga Blademaster sent to kill Dorian, saving the latter's life.

Tears of the Kingdom[]

Story Events[]

  • He attempted to save Zelda immediately after being attacked and badly wounded by Ganondorf.
  • He saved the Hyrulean races from harmful phenomenons in their hometowns triggered by Ganondorf following the Upheaval.
  • Defeated Ganondorf and saved Hyrule from his threat.
  • Using the power boost granted to him by the spirits of King Rauru and Queen Sonia, he undid Zelda's draconification and reverted her back to her Hylian form.

Side Quests[]

  • He defeated the pirate monsters that invaded Lurelin Village, and helped rebuild it.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity[]

  • Saved Zelda's life from a Guardian Stalker that had been corrupted by Harbinger Ganon.
  • He aided Mipha rescue some injured Zora Captains and Sidon.
  • He assisted Daruk by defeat the monsters swarming on Death Mountain including an Igneo Talus.
  • Attacked Revali out of self-defense, not malice and he does indeed stop when Zelda pleads them to, as does Revali. Even when the two of them don't get along, Link does not hold anything against Revali, no matter how much he throws insults at him, and is still willing to save his life, and it was due to his actions that would eventually earn Revali's respect.
  • He helped Urbosa defeat the Yiga Clan attacking Gerudo Town and sent them running.
  • He pushed away Terrako when the diminutive Guardian jumped in front of Zelda presumably to sacrifice itself to save her from Sooga’s kunai, thus saving both the guardian and the princess.
  • He saved Zelda from Astor by obtaining the Master Sword.
  • When King Rhoam tells him that it his duty to protect the princess, he forces her to run away from her father, as her father wanted for her to be safe over attempting to save him.
  • Thanks to Terrako, who opened time portals for four people of each tribe, Link is given enough time to save the lives of the Champions, so he assisted them in defeating the Blight Ganons.
  • While he did temporarily destroy Terrako, it was because he had no choice due to the guardian being corrupted by malice to attack Zelda.
  • He helped save the world from Calamity Ganon by dealing the final blow, allowing Zelda to seal him away for good.
  • He, alongside his friends, obtained the materials that were necessary to reconstruct Terrako after his sacrifice, which led to the guardian and the princess tearfully reuniting.
