Longneck is a major character from the 2024 Dreamworks animated movie, The Wild Robot.
He was an old but wise goose who was the leader of the goose flock on the island, and one of the few animals on the island who was kind to both Roz and her adopted son Brightbill.
He is voiced by Bill Nighy.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- Unlike most of the animals, he always treated Roz and Brightbill with kindness and respect, and was even ashamed of how his flock tends to antagonize them.
- He gave Brightbill a chance to fly with his flock, as long as he knew how to fly with them, encouraging Roz to train him. Thus, he became a father figure for Brightbill.
- When he noticed that Brightbill was sad about leaving Roz, he leads a formation to circle back so Roz and Brightbill could share one last look before parting ways.
- Noticing Brightbill's despondent nature, he gently speaks with him, telling him Roz killing his biological family and raising him was a blessing in a disguise, and also gently reassured him that Roz knows Brightbill loves her.
- When Brightbill and the other geese stumbled upon the hostile RECOs, Longneck sacrificed himself so Brightbill and the other geese could finish the migration and get back home.
- Even after his death, the kindness and wisdom he gave to Brightbill inspired him to lead his brethren and served a major part in his character development.
- Despite the high admirable standards, Longneck mainly stands out for his kindness towards both Roz and Brightbill, helping repair the bond between them, and sacrificing himself so his flock could safely escape.
