MAIA is minor character in the video game Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. She is a robot that used to serve Lyric the Last Ancient before turning on him and seeking to stop his plan to destroy organic life. She eventually found allies in form of Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower, and while the three of them only slowed Lyric down for a thousand years, she later helped ensure that he would be defeated once and for all.

She was voiced by Cindy Robinson.

What Makes Her Pure Good?[]

Despite being Lyric's creation, she went against his plans to destroy life and plotted to stop him.
She agreed to help Sonic and Tails get the map in exchange for them clearing the way to a Sentinel.
After taking control of the Sentinel and thanking Sonic and Tails, she used it to help the two get to the room with the map marking Chaos Crystals locations, before destroying Lyric's weapons facility and his forces inside.
- While the destruction of the facility isn't fully shown on-screen, the effects and results of it are, as other characters notice that the ground shaking and debris falling are MAIA's doing, and the ruins of the facility are seen in the present.
A thousand years later, she met Sonic and Tails again and explained to them how to find Chaos Crystals and stop Lyric's plan.
While she depressed Knuckles by saying that he was "irrelevant", she said that because she was looking for Sonic rather than him, so she most likely didn't mean to insult him.
She activated the time portal for Sonic and Tails to use to travel to the past, creating a stable time loop and ensuring Lyric's imprisonment in the past.

Trivia[]

MAIA is the only Pure Good in the Sonic Boom sub-franchise so far.
MAIA can be considered a counterpart of sort to Tikal the Echidna from the main series, as both are characters originating from distant past who helped stop a world-destroying villain and transported present-day heroes to the past to reveal important information to them. Coincidentally, both of them are Pure Good.
