Madoka Kaname (鹿目まどか) is the titular main protagonist of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise.
She is voiced by Aoi Yūki in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Christine Marie Cabanos in the English version. The former also voiced Rookie from Sonic Forces.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- She's a loving daughter towards the rest of her family.
- Her caring and upbeat personality caused her to become best friends with her classmate Sayaka before the events of the series.
- Rescued Kyubey from Homura upon seeing he was hurt even when the magical girl warned her to stay away from him.
- She, along with Sayaka, were visibly unsettled and apprehensive of Mami using her ribbons to restrain and imprison Homura.
- When Mami is killed in front of her while fighting the witch Charlotte, she, along with Sayaka, were deeply traumatized by the event, to the point where Madoka herself spent almost all of episode 4 crying over it.
- She saved Homura from being killed by Mami.
- After killing Mami to prevent her from doing the same to Homura, she broke down into tears.
- In one of the alternate pasts, she saved Homura from despair using Sayaka's grief seed to cleanse the former's own, in the hopes that Homura would be able to user her ability to rewrite history in order to make a better timeline. In the process, she also diminished any possibility of being able to cleanse her own tainted soul gem.
- After cleansing Homura's tainted soul gem and saving her from turning into a witch, she asked Homura to kill her before she became a witch herself.
- She was absolutely horrified when she realized that she inadvertently killed her best friend Sayaka by throwing her soul gem off a cliff in order to keep her from fighting Kyoko.
- Even after all of the trauma and horrific events of all the timelines Homura had been through, she still continues to help and protect others, all because of her own love for Madoka.
- The end of the anime has her use her wish to Kyubey to relieve the suffering of every magical girl that ever lived or ever will live by keeping them from ever becoming wishes in the first place, all at the cost of having the universe rewritten so that she never existed in it and becoming a law of physics herself.
- Creates a Heaven for Magical Girls and brings their souls there before they can become witches.
- Her actions even allow Kyubey to continue harvesting energy to keep the universe alive, albeit at a slower pace.
- Near the end of Rebellion, where Kyubey tries to control her into completing Homura's transformation into Homulilly, she, along with Nagisa and Sayaka, destroy the barrier holding Homura's soul gem, freeing it and destroying the remaining Incubators. After freeing her, she tries to cleanse Homura of her curse and bring her into the higher plane, only for Homura to strip her of her God-like abilities and rewrite the universe herself.
- She lacks any of the corrupting qualities that many of the other Puella Magi heroes have.
