Mako Mankanshoku is the tritagonist of the Kill la Kill anime and its manga adaptation. A goofy girl who attends Honnōji Academy, she is the best friend of Ryūko Matoi.
She is voiced by Aya Suzaki in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Christine Marie Cabanos in the English version.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- She immediately befriends Ryuko upon meeting her for the first time and offers to let her live with her family upon finding out Ryuko has no home.
- She explains to Ryuko about ranked of students and Goku uniform, even Satsuki Kiryūin leader of Students council (thanks to her giving Ryuko advice)
- She bares no grudges to any of the higher level students no matter how badly they abuse her.
- She convinces Ryuko not to be ashamed of her body, which motivates Ryuko to where she can properly use Senketsu at full strength.
- Although she attempts to beat Ryuko in order to obtain a three-star uniform upon being consumed by greed from the life of luxury Ryuko got her, she ultimately manages to reject this corruption on her own as she realizes what she was becoming and gives up the quality life she gained from being president of the Fight Club and willingly returns to no-star status.
- Adding to that, she scolds her family for encouraging her to fight Ryuko rather than trying to stop her.
- When Ryuko goes into a frenzied rage that could potentially kill her, Mako is the one who calms her down.
- She assisted in evacuating the Honnoji crowd to safety when Ragyo unleashed her COVERS to assimilate them.
- She sacrifices herself to save her family from being assimilated by COVERS.
- When Ryuko is brainwashed by Ragyo, Mako delves into Ryuko's mind with Senketsu and manages to snap her out of it.
- Upon regaining her two-star fight club uniform, Mako manages to help out just as much in the war against Ragyo as the Elite Four, who all have three-star uniforms.
- She joins everybody else in sacrificing her goku uniform to give Ryuko the power needed to stop Ragyo once and for all.
- While Ryuko and Satsuki do a lot more admirable things, Mako stands out not only due to having way lower resources than either of them, but for being the one that motivated Ryuko to become admirable in the first place.

- Mako is one of two Kill La Kill heroes to be pure good. The other being Senketsu.
