Marth, reputed as the Hero King, is one of the main protagonists of Nintendo's Fire Emblem franchise, as well as the face of the franchise.
He is the main protagonist of the Archanea timeline and one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Queen Lumera) of the 2023 video game Fire Emblem: Engage.
He is the king of Archanea and the original Fire Emblem Hero, as well as the first Fire Emblem lord in the franchise. He is famously known for his heroic deeds in Archaena and is the ideal hero who sets the inspiration for future lords, especially in the case of his distant descendant Chrom.
In Japanese, Marth is voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa as an adult, Yū Kobayashi as a child in games, and Ai Orikasa as a child in the OVA. In English, Marth is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, who also voices Spider-Man in Insomniac's Spider-Man series.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Marth is known for being an idealist and optimistic individual and tends to be trustworthy, placing his trust in many individuals without much consideration.
- Despite his strength and talent, Marth is incredibly humble and is even seen to be bashful when he is complimented by his decisions.
- While Marth had some corrupting qualities initially, like bitterness towards Gra, he eventually overcomes them.
- Due to his valiant actions, Marth serves as the ideal inspiration for numerous Fire Emblem heroes, lords, and hero-type characters.
Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light[]
- He attempted to object to Malledus' proposal to use one of the knights—canonically Frey—as a decoy to trick Jiol's soldiers while they were fleeing the Kingdom of Atlea.
- He began his quest to find the sacred sword Falchion and the Fire Emblem to confront Gharnef and Medeus, rescue his sister, and save the Kingdom of Atlea.
- He protected the island Kingdom of Talys from the pirates of Galder.
- He aided the Kingdom of Aurelis forces against the Macedonian forces.
- He became the leader of the Archanean League, which he helped found, in order to retake the continent of Archanea.
- He rescues Maria, the imprisoned sister of Princess Minerva, allowing Minerva to side with the league.
- Marth also trusted Minerva and went out of his way to risk his way to help her despite her being a princess of an enemy nation and his tactician suspecting a trap.
- He rescued Linde, the daughter of Miloah and inheritor to Aura, at Nyna's request.
- He defeated and slain King Jiol of Gra, leading to the nation's surrender and the freedom of Archanea, as well as avenging his father's death.
- He defeated the combined forces of Dohlr and Grust after arriving at Altea.
- He rescued and recruited Xane to the Archanean Legion.
- In order to prepare to face Macedon and Dohlr with the Archanean League and end the war, he defeated the nation of Grust.
- He defeated Gharnef, rescued Elice, and retrieved the sword Falchion at the Temple of Thabes.
- He led the Archanean League in storming the Dohlr Keep and defeated Medeus, putting an end to the War of Shadows.
- After Hardin became Emperor of Archanea, Marth would return to Altea and focus on rebuilding the kingdom.
Mystery of the Emblem[]
- At the request of Hardin, Marth leads the Atlean army in surpassing an insurrection in Grust, led by Lorenz.
- He tried to protect the Grustian heirs, Yuliya and Jubelo, from being taken away from Duke Lang, but failed.
- He successfully stopped a coup in Macedon.
- When ordered to recapture Yuliya and Jubelo from Lang, he refused and placed the two under his protection, while also recruiting the heirs' protector Ogma ,and a mysterious knight named Sirius into his ranks.
- He defeated Lang at Arvene Castle.
- He defeated Khadein's mage corps while recruiting Arlen to his army.
- He traveled to reconstruct the Starsphere, in hopes of using it and the Lightsphere to defeat Hardin and end the war.
- He freed the Kingdoms of Altea and Gra from the Archanea Empire, forging an alliance with Gra's leader Sheena.
- He defeated the Coyote's Men at Adira Pass. After the Coyote's men learns the truth from the King of Aureli about Hardin's crimes, Marth allows them to join and accepts the king's offer to pass the rule of Aurelis to him.
- Marth permits Katarina to live and atone for her deeds despite her betrayal and attempt to kill him. He says that killing her will not enable Katarina to atone and instructs her to live on and find her own means of atonement as a form of punishment.
- He led the invasion of the Archanea palace and personally defeated Hardin, freeing him from the influence of the Darksphere.
- He defeated and slain Gharnef, avenging Hardin and all the people he directly and indirectly killed, while also retriving Falchion.
- He defeated and slain Medeus for the second and final time, putting an end to the Shadow Dragon and his schemes once and for all. With the deaths of Hardin, Gharnef, and Medeus, he would finally bring an end to the War of Heroes.
- He would unite all of the continent of Archanea under his rule, becoming the first king of the Archanean Alliance, bringing peace and harmony to the continent.
Fire Emblem Engage[]
- As one of the twelve Emblem heroes, he assisted Alear and their allies in defeating Sombron and protecting Elyos from his evil.
