Mary Jane "MJ" Watson is the deuteragonist of Insomniac's Spider-Man video game series.
A Daily Bugle reporter, she is a friend and the current girlfriend of Peter Parker and is aware of his secret identity as Spider-Man. Part of her story involves an investigation into who is behind the events happening in New York City, which culminates in her breaking into Norman Osborn's penthouse.
She is voiced and motion-captured by Laura Bailey, who also voiced Supergirl in Injustice 2.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Even though she was slightly reckless when she went to Central Station without informing Peter about the Demons' possible presence, not only was it for the greater good, but she herself was the one who later called Peter to help and saved everyone there from being infected by Devil's Breath after disabling the bomb.
- Even though the Spider-men set a pretty high admirable standard, not only does MJ have less resources than Peter, Miles, and Martin Li, but her lack of superpowers and advanced technology also makes her stand out from them. During Venom's final invasion, while Peter and Miles fought him, she snuck into his den and managed to steal the meteorite which Venom had been using to infect the whole city with symbiotes, and then destroyed it in the particle accelerator at the Emily-May Foundation, preventing Venom's plan to subjucate the entire planet to being bonded with Symbiotes which is shown to put humans in intense pain.
Marvel's Spider-Man[]
- It's stated that in the past years, MJ had already helped Peter on several occasions during his time as Spider-Man, such as when she saved him when he was nearly killed by Kingpin and stole her father's car to drive him to the hospital.
- She goes to investigate Rosemann's action house by herself after hearing about Fisk's vast collection being auctioned there after his arrest, wishing to investigate more about his life as a crime boss.
- She infiltrates the building by posing as a photojournalist sent to photograph the items to be auctioned but uses the opportunity to investigate a statue that Fisk had been using as a safe where she discovers a folder about the Devil's Breath.
- She knocks a Demon out to save Peter from being shot.
- After a brief reunion, she worked with Peter to take out the Demons and save the hostage, losing the folder in the process. After that MJ and Peter begin talking again.
- She later interviewed Jefferson Davis on his encounter with the Demons while working with Spider-Man, wishing to publish his story. She later attended his award ceremony and after Li's bomb attack, she dragged the unconscious Peter to safety and tried to wake him up.
- She decided to team up with Spider-Man to take down Li and the demons, and also attended Davis' funeral.
- A few days later, she goes to investigate leads on Harlem after being tipped by a friend and discovers Tombstone's gang building an APC Tank for the Demons. She told Peter about this and about the trackers they were using, which allowed Peter to discover the plan to use Diox-3 to make criminals invulnerable and sell the drug, which he in turn stopped by creating a counter-drug and taking down Tombstone.
- She infiltrated the Central Park Sable International outpost to find Charles Standish and get more information from him before being interrupted by Peter, causing her to begin investigating on her own.
- She correctly deduced the Demons' next target to be the Grand Central Station and went there to investigate on her own before being confronted by Li. She then warned the officers and tried to help take Li before the Demons took everyone in the station hostage.
- She texts Peter to come and guides him in taking down the guards which allows them to save the hostages, which caused Li to order the bomb with Devil's Breath to be used, though fortunately MJ was able to shut it down in time with help from Peter's directions.
- After Doc Ock released the Devil's Breath and used the Sinister Six to cause several prison breakouts and spreading city-wide chaos, she went to the F.E.A.S.T. Shelter on Harlem to help Miles and May contain the situation and keep the refuges safe after the building was attacked by escaped prisoners.
- After evacuating, she called Peter for help and he arrived in time to save her, May and Miles.
- After Peter was knocked unconscious, she helped Miles carry him out of the fire. She then makes amends with Peter over their past relationship issues and teams up with him again.
- Later, she discovers an Oscorp secret lab that contains information on how to stop and cure the Devil's Breath which is located in Norman Osborn's penthouse, which she infiltrates and investigates for clues, in the process discovering Harry's whereabouts and illness.
- She also discovers Norman's attempts to replicate Spider-Man's powers and the truth behind Martin Li's origins.
- Upon being detected by S.A.B.L.E. Soldiers, she calls Peter and manages to get away just in time.
- She stood by Peter as he is operated on, and motivates him to fight Octavius, later attending May's funeral.
The City That Never Sleeps[]
- She notified Peter of someone trying to break into the MMoCA Museum to steal the Maria painting.
- She later helped Peter tracked down Black Cat and agreed to help save her apparent child despite her conflicted feelings on the possibility that Peter might be the child's father.
- She helped decode the encrypted data regarding Hammerhead and discovering Yuri's past with the Maggia and her vengeful tendencies.
- She eventually left on a trip to Symkaria in order to inform others of the ongoing war. At some point she asked Peter to come with her too, leaving Miles as the protector of New York for a time. After Peter returned, she stayed for some more time and even became friends with Silver Sable.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2[]
- She eventually started helping Peter move into May's house and the two discussed the possibility of living together.
- She later went to Conney Island to reconnect with Harry before Kraven's hunters attacked to find Tombstone, and she helped evacuate all the bystanders while Spider-Man tried to fight off the Hunters.
- She began investigating the Hunters and their intentions and found that Curt Connors had been kidnapped, as well as discovering that Scorpion, Vulture, Electro, and Shocker had all been killed in cold blood by Kraven, lamenting their fates and claiming that they didn't deserve it despite all they had done against her.
- When Connors is injected with the Lizard Serum by Kraven, MJ tries to calm him down and remind him of who he is before he fully transforms into the Lizard once again.
- When Peter is fatally stabbed by Kraven and tossed out a window, to which she runs to his aid and carries him to the exit while Harry fights off Kraven. She and Harry then try to heal Peter before he apparently dies, causing Harry to unconsciously transfer the Venom Symbiote to Peter and save his life.
- She and Peter then tried to find ways to return the symbiote to Harry as he would die without it. MJ then kept Harry company and tried to take care of him while searching for possible alternate cures while Peter had the symbiote.
- During the hunters' invasion at May's home with MJ inside, and as Peter, under the Symbiote's influence, begins to take them out, she tries to knock down as many as possible while also warning the neighbors and protecting them.
- She then tracked Peter down and tried to get him to remove the Symbiote by using electricity, which only angered it and caused it to chase her down.
- Although she made an article criticizing Spider-Man to please J Jonah Jameson, she later feels remorseful and apologizes to Peter for it.
- Under the influence of the Symbiote, Scream and Spider-Man had a fight across the neighborhood, though MJ can't be blamed for this as all of these actions were done by the Symbiote while she was merely the host body. Eventually Peter managed to reach out to MJ, who forcefully removed the symbiote which quickly perished without a host.
- She then quit the Bugle and mended her relationship with Peter, clearing up the dialogue during their fight.
- She later worked with Peter and Miles to create a plan to take down Venom and stop him from spreading the symbiotes to the rest of the world. While Peter and Miles distracted Venom, she stole the meteorite herself and later destroyed it using a particle accelerator, which caused all the symbiotes (including Venom) to die, freeing Harry from its influence.
- She later started her own podcast and moved in with Peter, convincing him to take a break from Spider-Man and entrust the city to Miles.
