I have been working on this since my arrival in Dream Land. Sword Knight and Blade Knight helped me a great deal, they were sworn to secrecy of course. It is called; Battleship Halberd!
~ Meta Knight

Meta Knight is the overarching protagonist of the anime series Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, which in turn is based off the Kirby video game series. He is one of the last surviving members of the Star Warriors who fought eNeMeE, and later went on to act as Kirby's coach in order to defeat eNeMeE once and for all.

He was voiced by Eric Stuart in the English dub and Atsushi Kisaichi in the original Japanese version.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • He was one of the many soldiers who had been battling eNeMeE and Nightmare Enterprises long before the events of the show. Although his first attempt failed with most of his comrades dying, he still refused to give up.
  • He decides to work for King Dedede so he can keep an eye on Nightmare Enterprises and pay attention to any monsters that may try to cause havoc.
  • Upon discovering that Kirby might be the Star Warrior to ultimately defeat eNeMeE, he dedicates his time to training him, including helping him use a sword and learning to pilot his ship. His training is not limited to Kirby either - he helps Tiff with her fighting and defending skills in the episode "The School Scam".
  • He has redeemed several anti-villains and characters with less noble goals. He was ultimately the one to talk sense into Knuckle Joe when he tried to attack Kirby, and also managed to redeem Sword and Blade Knight by getting rid of WolfWrath when he attacked them, despite them originally trying to assault him.
    • He also clearly shows no disdain or vengeance to those who attack him. When Sirica injures Meta Knight and tries to fight him again, he tries to stop her from touching the Galaxia sword, knowing it would inflict evil upon her by doing so. When Sirica sacrifices herself by throwing the sword to Kirby so he can destroy Kirisakin, Meta Knight says she would have made her late mother Garlude proud.
  • He was able to convince the Cappies to join him on his quest to defeat eNeMeE, despite their original reluctance.
  • He made sure that Tiff kept the Warp Star hidden in a safe place so that King Dedede or Escargoon wouldn't steal the Warp Star.
  • Ever since he entered Dream Land, he secretly built a spaceship, the Halberd, under Castle Dedede, alongside Sword and Blade Knight. He ultimately gets it completed in time for the episode "Cappy Town Down", where he recruits Kirby and several of his friends to take on eNeMeE and his monster army once and for all. He only never told anybody about it to avoid it being sabotaged.
  • Although he did appear to be on King Dedede's side in the episodes "Kirby's Duel Role" and "The Kirby Derby - Part II", with him fighting Kirby in the former episode and ramming his vehicle against a wall and getting Sword and Blade to tamper with its controls in the latter, he only did this because he knows Kirby has to be pushed to his limits in order to successfully train him.
    • This does not make him an Extremist or Lethal. In the former episode, he saved Kirby when a rock nearly fell on him, and in the latter episode, he still guided Kirby throughout the race course such as by telling him to accelerate to avoid a boulder. Therefore, he clearly only puts Kirby in situations he knows he can handle and draws the line on anything that could harm him.
  • Furthermore, despite technically tricking King Dedede by thinking he is on his side, he tricked him purely so he could protect others, and he still respects that king, as he warned him about one of his monsters stealing from him in "Pink Collar Blues".
  • Although he killed Knuckle Joe's father, this was only because he had to due to the fact that eNeMeE turned him into a monster. If Meta Knight let him live, it could have resulted in much more deaths and destruction.
  • Compared to his video game counterpart, who has corrupting factors, this version of Meta Knight has zero corrupting factors.
  • Despite not being the one to ultimately defeat eNeMeE, it was his training and building the Halberd that ultimately helped Kirby restore peace to Dream Land, and it is very unlikely that Kirby and company would have been able to do it without him.
  • Even though he has a serious and dark attitude, he does not darken the mood of the story, furthermore, he shares some comedic moments in the anime.
  • Throughout the series, he shows that he is very proud of Kirby as the latter grows more experienced.
  • He often appears at critical moments to aid Kirby and friends, either intervening in monster attacks or acting as an informant.
  • He saved Kirby from Escargoon's robot, "Escardroid" because Kirby almost got himself killed from the Escardroid robot.

Trivia[]

  • In the Kirby of the Stars pilot, Meta Knight was depicted as a villain, being amongst the monsters Nightmare sent to attack Kirby. However, the pilot is non-canon, so this does not affect his Pure Good status.
  • This is the only version of Meta Knight that is considered Pure Good, unlike his Near Pure Good mainstream counterpart.
  • He is the only Pure Good in the Kirby franchise to be based on a game enemy.
